Crude Scrapbooking

Happy Friday everyone! Today's post is a little different and I must apologize if this post bores you to tears. I was talking with someone the other day about card making and she's a scrapbooker. She asked me if I scrapbooked and I said "no, but if scrapbooking had been poplular when my kids were little they would have had awesome scrapbooks!" And that's true, I really think I would have gotten into it. However I am not about to go back through my old photos and make scrapbooks for them now! Watch out if I ever have grandchildren though! LOL!

Anyway, we talked a bit more and then I remembered some books I had made for my kids when they were little and they are kind of like scrapbooks so I dug them out to show her. She told me I should share them on my blog, and I almost didn't but then I thought why the heck not? There are some of you out there who have kids (or grandkids) now who might really enjoy books like this!

So, first a little background and then pictures! I made these books for each of my daughters when they were about two years old. I made them with family photos and wrote a "story" as if my child were talking about a day in their life. I used plastic canvas and yarn for the book covers, file folders from work for the pages, and hand wrote the words. I had the pages laminated (a friend who worked at an elementary school had access to a laminater and did it for me) to keep dirty fingers from messing them up. These books were not stored away to be looked at occasionally. They sat on the book shelf with all the other books my kids loved to have read to them!

Here are the covers (Ashley's book is on the left and Chesney's book on the right)

Going in birth order, here are the pages of Ashley's book

It won't hurt my feelings if you've had enough and leave now, but here is Chesney's book

I put their names on the spine of the books

The pages were numbered to help them count when we read. Really this was a fun thing to make with them and they both enjoyed reading their own stories. I know it's not the kind of thing I usually share, but I hope you've enjoyed it and if you didn't get a few ideas maybe you at least got a laugh at my hair back then!

I truly hope you enjoy your day and thanks for looking!

Card Winner picked #9 as the winner of yesterday's card so that makes Christina the winner! Christina, I've e mailed you for your address. Thanks for commenting everyone!

A gift from Carole and exciting news!

If you haven't yet posted a comment on yesterday's card and you'd like to have a chance to win it, you still have time! Just go leave a comment here by noon today!

Back in March I had some blog candy up for grabs and the winner of the candy was Carole. Last week I received this gorgeous card from Carole

Isn't this just amazing? The coloring is awesome and the flower soft just exquisite! Carole also sent me some images to color and today I have two cards I made using a couple of them. I think these images are from Magenta.

I colored these both with these markers

The designer paper is more from that My Mind's Eye pack I bought the other day. I love the papers in there! The colors are just delightful and I like the glitter. It's not overpowering like some papers I've seen. The cardstock that is half a scalloped circle on the top card looks more red/orange than it is in real life. It's really more of an apricot color that goes with the designer paper better.

Some exciting news to share with you! Mark your calenders for August 14th. That night from 7 to 9 pm (central time) Rhonda and I will be co-hosting a fun digi day event on the Yahoo Squigglefly Group! We both enjoyed the one on the Card Universe group so much that we want to do something like that on yahoo too. We have some fun things planned and I know that some new images will be making their debut as prizes!

Okay, I'll be back in a bit to announce who has chosen as the winner of yesterday's card! Have a great day, and thanks for looking!

Pamper Yourself with a Card Giveaway!

Happy hump day! Today is card giveaway day so if you'd like to win today's card along with an envelope (soyou can mail it to someone if you want) just leave a comment on this post and tomorrow I'll have pick a winner. How simple is that?
The card I have made uses a Squigglefly image called Long Day

I'm sure we've all had days like this! I remember how much my feet would ache after working an eight hour shift as a waitress. Soaking my feet would do wonders!

I colored this with these copic markers

I cut around the image from the floor line up and then placed it on some designer paper that I thought was a good paper to look like wallpaper. I used one the labels nestabilites die to cut the whole image out and then another larger one out of some rust colored cardstock that I then embossed with the textile embossing folder. I used my computer to print the words out on some different designer paper and attached some brads in two corners. I hope you like it enough to want it, and if you do, don't forget to comment!

Have a wonderful Wednesday and thanks for looking!

Squigglefly Challenge 12

Hi everyone! I was able to complete my card for this week's squigglefly challenge and here it is

The challenge that Rhonda presented to us this week is a sketch challenge. You can play along and add your card to Mr. Linky here.

I used two images from squigglefly; the bird is from You Make My Heart Sing and the sentiment in the middle is from the Circle Sentiments set.

I used some of the new paper I just bought. It's from My Mind's Eye and the pack is called Just Dreamy. I love it! the bird is colored with copic markers. I used chalk on the circle sentiment while the nestabilities die was still on it. It's a simple card, but I do like it.

It dawned on me last night that the reason it's so quiet around blog land is because so many people are in Orlando at the CHA show! I can't wait to see what new products are being shown!

Before I go I have one more card I want to share with you. This is another birthday card I received that arrived too late to be included in my birthday post, but it's such a special card it needs it's own place anyway. It's from Freida Fletcher who is a faithful follower of a my blog and someone who has become a dear friend to me. She sent this to me while she was on vacation and I just love it! I think you will too

and the inside

Isn't it just a wonderful creation? I love the palm leaves on the trees, and all the hog references are great; right up my alley! Thank you so much Freida. I will treasure this!

I hope you all have a great day, and remember to come back tomorrow for card give away day!

Christmas Card Monday

Hi everyone! Are you ready for another work week? I don't know about you, but I could stand a few more weekends! I got a ton of stamping done over the weekend! Got in a little shopping too. I went to Hobby Lobby and got a slab of yummy designer papers thanks to a gift card my cousin sent me for my birthday. Thanks Shirley!
I also got some fun card charms, and some ribbon. This being Monday, it's time for me to show you another Christmas card, and the little snowflake charm on the card is one of the charms I bought.

I colored this with copic markers and used some stickles and glitter gel pens for the sparkle. I used somepuff paint for the snow. Fairly simple card layout, so there's really not a lot to say about this one. The image is one from Squigglefly called Christmas Delivery.

Well, enjoy your day whatever you've got planned, and thanks for stopping by!

Loves Me, Loves Me Not

Good morning everyone! Boy yesterday was a really quiet day in blog land! Every place I went barely had visitors. My e mail was super slim too. What's going on? Is everyone doing the Splitcoast challenges or just out enjoying the weather?

I have a card today that I did for another of the dirty girl challenges. Only one challenge this time around, but I love how the card turned out! I used the Loves Me, Loves Me Not image and colored it with copic markers.

The grass and sky are chalked. The challenge was to Tie One On and use ribbon. I have the double ribbon going across the card, but the flowers that are in the corner are also from ribbon and I just cut them out.
I used a coluzzle to cut the oval, (oh, I guess that officially qualifies this card for the Cut It Out challenge as well!) and when I snipped the oval out it got a little crooked and bugged me so I distressed all around the edge to conceal the crookedness. I tied a little flower charm to the ribbon and I really like what that little charm adds to the card.
Here are the copic colors I used to color this.

I have to get my menu for the week planned out and then make a grocery list. I also need to work on a Christmas card because tomorrow is Christmas card Monday! I hope whatever your plans are that you enjoy your day! Thanks for looking!

Treat Yourself To Some Challenges!

Hi everyone! I know I'm off to a late start this morning, but I've been busy creating this card for some more of the Dare To Get Dirty challenges! SIX challenges in one card. What fun this was to make! The image is from Squigglefly and is called Ice Cream Sundae. I colored it with copics and chalked the background. The words "treat Yourself!" are computer generated.

Here's a close up of all the texture

I told you I combined six challenges on this card, so here's the list!

DTGD09Krystie_Lee - clearly Creative - I used the clear bubble and I used clear beedz in the center of the flower. I also used yellow vellum on the bottom of the card and behind the cirlce. I love how the yellow vellum changed the color of the pink to orange and the blue to green!
DTGD09Becca_Stamps - Cut It Out - I cut out the circle shapes.
DTGD09DeborahLynneS - Taken With Texture - I embossed the yellow vellum and the blue layer, I added crystal lacquer to the chocolate syrup and puff paint to the marshmallow sauce. The clear beedz on the flower center also add texture.
DTGD09TruCarMa - Good Enough To Eat - To use something food related on your project #what's better to eat than a sundae?!
DTGD09Lauraly - Tie One On - to use ribbon on your card. The piece that runs across the card with the Happy Birthday and the candles is a piece of ribbon.
DTGD09One_Happy_Stamper - sketch

Whoo Hoo! I think this is the most challenges I've ever fit on a card! Truly a blast!

DTGD09 Challenge Overload

Happy Friday everyone! I have a card to show you today that would make Maria proud (I think!) The Dirty Girls at Splitcoast stampers have issued challenges to the fan club members beginning yesterday. I sat down with a list of ideas for cards for the challenges and ended up with one card that fits FOUR challenges! I think that's a record for me.

Here is my card (sorry it's crooked)

I used the Hooty-Who image from Squigglefly and printed it out on three different digital papers and one white cardstock piece. I cut the owl out of the white cardstock piece and then paper pieced the tree with the digital papers. Here's what the inside looks like

Now here are the challenges I met.
TAG ART - use some kind of tag in your creation. I printed the Yoo Hoo! onto cardstock and then punched the tags out with a punch. That also qualifies it for the CUT IT OUT challenge which is to use some kind of punch of die cut on your creation. Then I used the dew drops on the corners and googly eyes on the owl which qualifies it for the CLEARLY CREATIVE challenge to use something clear or translucent on your card. The owl qualifies it for the FLAP YOUR WINGS challenge to use something with wings on your creation. Whew!
If I had used one less designer paper on my card it would have qualified for the MASCULINE CARD challenge, but I already had my tree paper pieced before I noticed the stipulations. Oh well, it was sure fun making it and seeing how many challenges I could fit in!
You can play along too if you want! Just go here and check it out!

I thought I'd give you a heads up and let you know that Squigglefly has just marked prices down on tons of items in the store. Check out the "On Sale" category and the "99 cent Bargain Bin". There is also a "Last Chance Bin" for all images that will be discontinued in August. If there's an image you've put off getting, you might want to see if it's still going to be there after July!

Hope your day is a great one, and thanks for looking!

My Squigglefly Challenge 11 card

Hi everyone! Thank you so much for all the wonderful birthday wishes everyone sent me yesterday! I swear everyone wanted to feed me for my birthday this year! You know my friend took me to out for breakfast on Sunday for my birthday, then on Tuesday my former boss brought me lunch at work. Last night my husband fixed my favorite meal, my best friend (the same one who bought me breakfast) shows up with a box of baklava that she bought at a Greek bakery, and my sister sent over TWO cakes! One of them was a chocolate cake with white icing and one was a decadent ice cream cake! I know I don't look like I'm starving, so I must just look like I like food! LOL!

When my husband got the salad finished he carried it in to show me and I said "Let me get a picture to show my blog buddies" He posed for it

Yummy! Oh, the salad's looking good too! LOL!

Well I did finish the card I was working on for Squigglefly's 11th Challenge. The challenge is to create a non gender baby card using purple. Well I love purple and never turn down a chance to use it! Here's my card

I printed out the Rocking Horse image and colored it with these copics

I cut it out with a circle nestabilities die and then I punched circles out of some purple and white designer paper and stuck them on the back all around to make my scallops. The card was embossed with the Swiss Dots embossing folder from Provo Craft. Doesn't that particular folder just always work for baby cards? My words were computer generated with a font called Kayleigh and I popped it up.
At the last minute I added a little bow. I don't think that makes it too girly since it's white. What do you think?

Squigglefly would love you to play along! Go here and link your creation to Mr. Linky!

New sentiments are now available at a great price of only 99 cents! There is one set of circle words that are great, and I love that they can be sized to fit any circle punch or die you might have! Go check them out, and while you're shopping remember that any animal image purchased in July will have half the proceeds go to the ASPCA to help animals. Don't forget to sign up for the rewards program too! For every $15.00 you spend you can pick a free image - even sets! It's free to join and your points never expire!

I hope you have a great day today, and thanks for looking!
