Tara's Valentine

Hi everyone! My boss's six year old daughter, Tara is a huge fan of Justin Bieber. She told me that when she was in kindergarten, she told her friends that Justin Bieber was her dad! Anyway, when I saw this new image from Fawn Palmer at Squigglefly, I knew that this Valentine's Day was the day to introduce puns to Tara by making her this

Image - A Happy Beaver by Fawn Palmer The image comes with a couple more sentiments, but this one was perfect for Tara. I colored the image with Copic markers and then stamped some grass sprigs over the ground.  I used a wood grain embossing folder on the pink piece in the background.    I know this will make her laugh.

I'm glad tomorrow is Friday!  This has been a long week for some reason.  See you then!

Lots Of Hearts

Hi everyone! I've got some fun cards to share with you today. Sunday's Featured Stamper challenge at Splitcoast Stampers featured a gallery full of some wonderful cards, but her clean and simple cards were the ones that captured my attention.

I ended up CASING three of her cards! The first card can be seen HERE.  For my card I changed the color of the image (from Hearts Set One at Squigglefly) before printing.  There is a video that shows you how to do this in Adobe Photoshop HERE.    I added the wording at the same time.  Once it was printed I colored in the little hearts and then went over them with a glue pen and sprinkled on some glitter.  Then it was just a matter of rounding the bottom corners and tying on a ribbon!  (I cut a little slit in the fold to wrap my ribbon around the card.)

The second card I CASED can be seen HERE.  For my card I used the same heart image, but this time I cut it out and stuck it to the card at an angle.  The sentiment was printed on the card stock before doing the embossing.

The last card I chose can be seen HERE.  I made this for the Teaparty challenge at Splitcoast Stampers so I didn't show it until today.  We are making black, white, and one other color valentines to send to Cindy to thank her for all of the wonderful Teaparties she has thrown.

I really loved the embossed snowfall background on the card, so I mimicked that  by dotting some liquid applique on the card and then puffing it up.  This time I used a different heart from the same set and added a little bit of red.  I stuck some little pearls where the image had little circles.  I thought the pearls went well with the puffed up dots on the background piece.  The background of the photo makes it hard to see that the card base is glossy black and the white piece is layered over that.

Then yesterday at Splitcoast Stampers they had the Clean and Simple challenge done like the featured stamper challenge.  I found this card that I loved, so I made this

I do love the clean design, but calling this simple is false advertising!  Punching out and gluing all of those hearts took too much time!  The sentiment is a stamp from Michael's dollar bin.

If you are looking for some quick, but still elegant valentines to make this year, the Heart Sets at Squigglefly each have a ton of different hearts - a great value!  All of my cards also fit the Squigglefly Blog Challenge that started yesterday, and also Outlawz Monday Greeting card challenge to use hearts!  I hope you will play along in Squigglefly's challenge this week too.

Carpe diem

Hi everyone! Well I know I'm really late for the Squigglefly blog challenge to use inchies in your project, but I did finish this just in the nick of time!

I totally cased this card from one I saw in the Spring 2013 issue of Cardmaker Magazine. I loved the simplicity of it. I used the Big Bloom image from Squigglefly drawn by Jane Beljo. I colored the flowers with Copic markers and computer generated the sentiment. The individual inchies are popped up and I also popped up the white panel on a white card base. It's a simple card to make, but I think it's really cute!    The center of the flowers has some brown liquid applique that I puffed up.

Now there is a brand new challenge at the blog! Hopefully I won't be as late with this one!  I hope you will play along too!

I had a good weekend.  I made my cooking for the week go a little easier by using some meals that I had frozen earlier in the month.  So, I only had to cook a couple of meals!  I went shopping with my best friend on Saturday and had Sunday free to create and play with the puppies.

The weather here is spring like, and I am sorry to say that I have seen the first jonquil bloom.  this means spring isn't far away, and once spring is here summer isn't far behind!  I already miss winter!

Oh, snap!

Hi everyone. I finally have internet back! Our internet and television service has been gone for two days due to some malfunction in one of AT&T's servers, but sometime Wednesday night it came back and I am SO thankful! It is amazing how un-entertaining life is with no internet or television! I will say that Brock probably loved it because he got more neck rubbing time than usual!

Well, I told you I'd have a sneak peek for you today, and I'm a woman of my word! This is an image from Lynne Stansbery called Oh Snap! It won't be available at Squigglefly until February 2nd, but it comes with the sentiment!

I love Lynne's artwork, but her hands are really special. She has a lot of them in Squigglefly's shop and they all are so special. I colored this with Copic markers (what else?)  Other than that there's not much to tell.  I sponged around the edges and used some designer papers that had the corners rounded.  I think it makes for a fun late birthday card.

Some of Squigglefly's design team are showing more sneak peeks of images coming in February.  Be sure to check their blogs out to see!  New artist Gayle Seach has some fabulous masculine images!

I will be busy making more cards this weekend on top of the usual household chores, so I won't be around over the weekend.  I hope you have a great one!  See you Monday!

Valentine Tree

Hi everyone! Today I have a valentine card to share that uses an older Squigglefly image, but it's one I really love. It's by Rich Davis and is called Heart Tree

I used Copic markers to color the tree and grass.  The sky is chalked and then I used a clear glitter pen on the little hearts.    I computer generated the sentiment and then stitched around the white layer.  The top part of the card is embossed with a die.

Riley seems to have made a full recovery from her encounter with the squirrel.  I think she has converted Baxter into a squirrel hunter too!  Poor squirrels don't stand a chance!

Tomorrow I'll have a card that shows you one of the new images coming to Squigglefly on February 2nd.  We also have a new artist making her debut then!

secret crush

Hi everyone! Was your Monday as busy as mine? I was swamped at work all day long and came home to more stuff to do on the computer with Squigglefly! Let's hope today is a little slower paced.

Yesterday's Outlawz Greeting Card challenge was Anything Goes! I always love those because you don't have to do too much thinking - just make a card! Here's the one I made

Isn't this such a sweet image? It's a new one in Squigglefly's store by artist Lynne Stansbery called Oh, Please Be Mine! I colored the image with Copic markers and chalked with some yellow in the background.  I always seem to use yellow for that, but it always seems to be best!

The sentiment was computer generated.  I added a little crocheted heart with a pin that I stuck some beads on.  Overall, it's a pretty simple card.

I still haven't made a card for Squigglefly's challenge, but I hope to do it sometime this week!  please play along with us!  It's a great way to win free images - and you get to pick!   Even if you don't play, you need to go see what the design team has done - they made some fabulous cards to inspire you!

Have a great day, and thanks for looking!

My Bloomin' Hearts

Hi everyone! I hope you had a great weekend. Ours was nice. The weather couldn't have been better! The dogs and I got a lot of outdoor time; some of it was muddy outdoor time, but it was all fun outdoor time! Riley got a squirrel yesterday afternoon and was so proud of herself, but she did sustain a small bite on her lip. It doesn't look swollen or anything this morning so I'm in a wait and see mode with that.

I got a few cards made on Sunday. I wasn't quite feeling my creative juices flowing with anything I did though. I don't know what the problem is. Here is one I made using Quilted Basket Of Hearts by artist Diane Knott

I colored the image with copic markers and then glittered the hearts. The sentiment is a stamp I got in Michael's dollar bin.  the embossing at the bottom is a new folder I got called Tied Together by Couture Creations.  Isn't it sweet?  I added little pearls in the intersections.  A wide, pink ribbon wrapped around the card dresses it up a little more.

Today is a brand new challenge on the Squigglefly Blog!  I hope you'll play along with us.  I plan on doing it too!  I hope you have a really wonderful day!

Teaparty In the Garden

Hi everyone! I thought we were going to be lucky enough to get another round of snow Tuesday, but it turned out to only be a dusting. It was still enough to let me go into work late yesterday morning so I spent some extra time with the dogs in the field next to our house before going to work. They love the cold as much as I do. Of course it would have been a lot more fun if we could have built a snowman!

Tuesday was the Teaprty challenge at Splitcoast stameprs. Our cards are to have gardens on them and they are going to a lady who was on a spur of the moment vacation in New York with her husband when he suddenly suffered a heart attack and died. I just can't imagine being in a strange place all on your own with such heartache!

Anyway, I used Diana Garrison's wonderfully whimsical Garden Party image available at Squigglefly for my card. the sentiment is from another of Diana's images called Daisy Pops.

I colored the image with Copic markers and chalked the sky. I then used a punch I've had for a while and never used to make the grass. I punched it out of some designer paper.  I added a little bit of glitter to some of the flowers just for sparkle.

The edges are border punches that I punched and then attached to the card.  I kind of like the punches in the same color as the card.  My card has already gone in the mail to this woman, and I hope she gets a mailbox full of cards and loves them all!

Have a terrific Thursday!

Light reading

Hi everyone! I hope your week is going well. Saturday our weather was quite warm and uncomfortable, but a cold front moved in and yesterday it didn't even get out of the thirties. I am glad that winter has decided to stick around for a little longer! We got the dogs out to the park on Sunday and they had a blast. We even let Baxter off his leash to do his own thing and he did really well staying with us. He is becoming quite the woods dog like Riley. Here are a couple of pictures of him walking on a big fallen tree.  The first one he is walking down, and he turned around and came back.  You can see by the look on his face that he was so proud of himself for doing it!

meanwhile at the other end of the log this was taking place

Sunday's Featured Stamper challenge at Splitcoast Stampers is one of my most favorite challenges and I was able to play this weekend. The card I CASED is HERE and here is the card I made using an image from Squigglefly by Lynne Stansbery called Story Time

I colored the image with Copic markers and chalked the background.  The sentiment was computer generated.  I love the sentiment on the original card so much!  If you'd like the sentiment you can right click on it below and download it for your own use.

Have a great day!

It's simple

Hi everyone!  I am short on time so I'm going to make this a quick and simple post, just like the card I made for the Clean and Simple challenge at the Outlawz.  The theme of the challenge is "Let's make music together."

I went very simple with this Heart Guitar image and Love Is sentiment from Squigglefly.

I colored the guitar with copic markers and I also used a pale pink on the word "Love" in the sentiment. It's a little hard to see that as well as the shadow I colored under the guitar. I used a clear glitter pen on the guitar strings. There's a new challenge at the Squigglefly blog today! I hope you'll go check out what the design team has done and consider playing along with us! Have a fantastic Monday~!

Strut Your Stuff

Hi everyone! Happy Friday to us all! I have a cute card to share with you today and I had so much fun color it! this is one of the newest images by Lynne Stansbery. It was just release last weekend. It's called Strut Your Stuff, and I think it's just about the cutest image ever.

I used Copic markers to color it.  I did some of my usual crooked stitching around the edge and I'm wishing now I'd left that off!  I just need to practice on scrap papers and quit doing it on my cards until I can stitch straight!

I wanted the black ruffles to still look ruffley after coloring them in black, so I used a clear glitter pen to trace over the ruffles and I really like how it turned out.  Even better than I expected!  I also used the pen on the necklace  The sentiment comes with the image and there's another one as well!

You still have time to play in Squigglefly's blog challenge!

It's still winter

Hi everyone! If you are anything like me you probably didn't get to make and send as many Christmas cards as you'd have liked. Once I had all of my Christmas cards mailed, I made a note of people who sent me Christmas cards that I hadn't had time to make a card for. I decided once the holiday hoopla was over I'd make winter cards for them. Cheryl Alger has drawn two snowmen, Winkie's Snowday Dreaming and Blinkie's Snowday Dreaming that are both perfect for these types of cards. here is a set of three I made using Winkie's Snowday Dreaming.

Here they are one at a time so you can see a little more detail in each one.  This first one features one of my tatted flowers with a red button in the center.

This one is just tied with a button.  I thought adding a snowflake would be too much because the background paper I used is a little busier.

and finally, this one uses a quilled snowflake.

All of them were colored with Copic markers and I dotted snow with white gesso.

Thanks for the well wishes for my husband's knee.  He said it was feeling a little better last night so hopefully it will continue to improve.  For a while there I thought I'd have to go buy some crutches for him!

We had to take Baxter to the vet yesterday evening.  About a week ago we noticed the corner of his mouth was really red, raw looking, and swollen.  We attributed it to too much rawhide chewing and put ointment on it a couple of times a day for a while.  We also took the rawhides away!  It started looking a little better and the swelling decreased, but  it still wasn't completely better so we thought it should be looked at.  it turns out it is a parasite that is in the mange family.  Luckily it's not contagious to other dogs or to humans!  She said all dogs have them in small numbers all of the time, but under moments of stress they can increase.  She thought perhaps with all of the changes he's had in the past few months that this is the case with him.  The good news is that it's easily treated with a topical ointment.

We were also told that he's more than put on the weight he should and to cut back on his food.  poor Bax!  He does love his food!

Wishing you all a wonderful day!  See you tomorrow!

The card I forgot!

Hello everyone!  Here's a card I made before Christmas and forgot to share on my blog. It uses an image drawn by artist Fawn Palmer called A Sleepy Gift.  It comes with a sentiment that I used on the inside of the card.

I colored it with Copic markers and added some silver embossing to the ribbon on the package to match the ribbon I used on the card.

My husband's knee has been hurting him for a while now.  He said it felt just like the time he had a torn meniscus in his other knee several years ago.  He finally went to the doctor after hobbling around for weeks and found that it is simply arthritis.  The doctor said it had a lot of fluid in it and he drained about 30 cc's off of it, gave him a shot of steroids, and some pain killers.  But of course, he hasn't taken it easy on his knee since he got back from the doctor!  He's been out cutting up the trees and limbs from the snow and ice and dragging them out to the curb.

Hope you have a great day!

Monday, January 7, 2013

Hi everyone! Well, I did lock myself in my room on Sunday, but not for as long as I would have liked so I didn't get as many cards made as I hoped. The weather was beautiful and the dogs kept calling me out to play so I guess it was a good trade off!

Yesterday's Clean and Simple challenge at the Outlawz was to use something new, and Squigglefly just had a release of brand new images so I was set to play along! I had a hard time choosing just which image to use for the challenge since there are so many fun ones, but I ended up going with this Sweets To The Sweet drawn by artist Lynne Stansbery.

I colored it with Copic markers and chalked some yellow in the background. The cupcake is topped with white liquid applique that I puffed up, and the strawberry is lightly sugared with glitter.  I did a simple straight stitch around the designer paper and added a punched border down the middle.  The sentiment is one that comes with the image, and there's another one as well!

The Squigglefly design team is back at challenges this week, and Rhonda's Rowdy Rascals are back at bat.  We are welcoming two new design team members - Carolyn Cochran and Linda Simpson!  The challenge is to make a thank you card.  I had another thank you card to make and liked the snowman one I made the other day, so I made another one.

I used the same Catching Snow image drawn by Cheryl Alger.  This time I gave him some real buttons!  I stitched on this one too, but as you can see I got a little crooked with it!  I really need to practice with this machine!  I hope you'll play in Squigglefly's challenge too!

Thanks Snow Much

Hi everyone!  Today is another fabulous new release of images at Squigglefly!  There is some wonderful new art that you just have to go see!

The Outlawz Twisted Thursday challenge was Snow People and I had the perfect snowman drawn by Cheryl Alger.  All of Cheryl's snowmen are cute, but this Catching Snow one is my favorite.  He just looks so  doggone happy, and I like that you can make his hands be juggling snowballs in the air!

I colored him with copic markers and chalked the blue in the background.  Then I went to town making snowflakes!  I used dots of white gesso and dots of liquid applique that I then puffed up.  I think the flat dots and the puffed up dots make it look more dimensional.  The sentiment was computer generated.

I am off to do my grocery shopping and then I'm coming home and locking myself in my craft room to make cards!  I may even give my fixed sewing machine a spin and sew on some of them!  I hope you get to spend your weekend having some fun too!  See you on Monday when Squigglefly's blog challenges start back up!

Sitting Pretty

Hi everyone! TGIF! I'm really glad this was a short week. It's nice to ease back to the routine of working every day.

I am itching to make cards this weekend! It has been too long since I've been in my craft room doing anything besides cleaning and organizing it after all of the holiday card making. My desk is cleared and I have images printed and ready to color!

Today's card is another one I made a while back, but haven't shared yet. It uses a darling image from Fawn Palmer called Abby Is Sitting Pretty.

I used Copic markers to color her and chalked in the background.  She was cut out with an oval nestabilities die and I embossed it while it was still in the die.  Then I added a scalloped border.  I love the floral paper I used on this - but I think it was my very last scrap.  I added some corner dies at the top.  The little blur on the top left is a smudge I had on my camera, but I had already sent this card off before I realized it so I couldn't take another photo!

Enjoy your day!

I See

Hi everyone! Well, all the holidays are over and it's time to get back to the real world! I had an enormous amount of time off of work due to the snow and the power outages, but I didn't get very many cards made at all! I did get my craft space cleaned up a bit which will make it easier when I do sit down to make a card again.

My daughter and her husband repaired my sewing machine while they were here for Christmas, so maybe I'll be able to sew more on my cards this year! The card I'm sharing with you today is one I made before Christmas for a challenge. The challenge was to do with eyes, and I chose to use the Eye See You image from Squigglefly.

I colored the image with Copic markers and added a jewel over the beauty mark on the image.  The "I see" was computer generated.  The eyes part of this card is what opens to reveal the rest of the message hidden behind the flap which says "it's your birthday."

I hope all of you have a wonderful day!
