Blood, sweat, and tears

Well the flooring is finished and our house is back in some semblance of order!  They finished laying the tile around 8:30 Friday night and we spent the weekend (thank goodness it was a three day weekend!) getting things put back in place.  We aren't finished yet!  There are still some places we need to touch up where they scraped base boards and scuffed walls.  Also, I wanted to move the desk I had in my craft room for my sewing machine into the laundry room, and move the desk I had in the laundry room into my craft room - but we broke one of the desks while moving it so my craft room is now in total disarray!

We still have some doors to re-hang, and just over all cleaning up, but for the most part it's finished!  We love the tile.  I'm very pleased with the pattern we chose too.  I didn't want something that had a straight line of grout, and this pattern worked perfectly.

As promised, here are some photos.  This first picture is our living room taken from the front door.  You can see a little bit of a wooden column there.  There were two columns with little railings on either side.  We had those removed.

here's another picture that shows you more of what the railing looked like.  It's amazing how much removing the railing opened the room up.

Here is our living room now.  We got a new coffee table and end table as well as a new recliner.  We needed a new recliner, and even though the tables we had were decent, we decided to go with something a little smaller.  The little rug is just there to protect the floors from the table until we get our new rug.  It's supposed to be here at the end of the week.

Here is our kitchen before (see Baxter coming in to say hi?)

and the kitchen finished

here are a couple of pictures of the dogs tired out after a day of renovation - this is the floors scraped down to the cement.  Riley in the laundry room

Once I have my craft room back I will make some cards and life can return to normal!

Squigglefly Challenge!

Hi everyone!  So sorry to tell you that I don't have a card to share with you today, and I may be absent most of the week.  As you know the tilers are coming today to start laying the tile in our house.  I spent most of the weekend getting the last of the furniture and stuff moved to other rooms.  This means that my craft room is not the sanctuary it usually is and I had zero craft time over the weekend!

I do want to remind you that a new challenge is up on Squigglefly's blog - so go play along if you are lucky enough to have some free time to play in your craft room!

Chimply Marvelous!

Hi everyone!  I am so glad that Friday is finally here.  It's so strange how some weeks fly by and some just drag.  This one was definitely a dragger!

Here's a card I made last weekend during my crafting time using an image by Fawn Palmer called A Monkey Lover.  It comes with this sentiment as well as one more that's just as cute.   This is the card I was making with the burlap background that I told you gave me the great idea for my Llama fur on my Llama Mama card.   As you can see, I decided to embrace the unraveled edges and used some embroidery floss to stitch around the whole piece!

I love the texture the burlap gives it, and I love the pop of color with the embroidery floss!  The image is colored with Copic markers and I chalked some blue in the background.  I am entering this card in Outlawz Copic Marker challenge which has the theme of "cute and cuddly".  I think this little monkey is cute, and while real monkeys might not be too cuddly this guy looks like he would be!

This weekend will be busy getting last minute things done before the big tiling day begins on Monday!  I hope you enjoy your weekend!  See you on Monday!

Floor update and a cup of flowers!

Hi everyone!  Well, the tilers are delayed on another job so we will be waiting until next week for them to start.  In the meantime, we are walking around on cement and builder's paper with a lot of our essential items packed away!  At least we got the news before we disconnected and moved our washer and dryer!
Also, one little piece of information that I just couldn't stand for - we had three different tilers come to give us estimates on the labor.  All three of them said they would leave the area under and behind the refrigerator un-tiled!  When my husband mentioned that, I said "No way!  They will tile that!"  He said "what difference does it make?  It won't be seen."  I stuck to my guns though and said I wanted it tiled.  Don't you think it's weird that all three of them would do that?  I guess it's common, but I think it would look really strange to move into a place and see the one spot where the refrigerator was going to be left bare like that.  What do you think?

Also, we have Baxter scheduled for doggie day care at our vet's office for the days during the construction.  We went to see the place and it's not a crate or anything they keep him in - it's a large pen that he will have to himself but be next to other dogs.  I think being near other dogs will keep him feeling comfortable, and it's got to be better than drugging him.

Today's card is one I made with an image from one of Squigglefly's newest artists, Pamela Lehto.  She has such lovely images, and I found this Cup With Flowers really sweet!   I let the designer paper guide me in choosing my colors.  I never would have paired turquoise with orange, but I do like it!

Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day!

Bearing Flowers

Hi everyone!  I originally started today's card for the clean and simple challenge at the Outlawz, but by the time I finished the card it was anything but clean and simple!  The theme of the challenge was to have butterflies somewhere on your card.  I picked this cute Butterfly Bear image by Diane Carubia because of the little butterflies, but once it was colored I couldn't stop adding papers to it!  Luckily though, Monday's Greeting Card challenge at the Outlawz is Anything Goes, so I still get to submit this card to one of their challenges!

I think the expression on this bear's face is the cutest!  I added a few brads at the last minute because they matched the paper so well!  My sentiment is computer generated and then cut out with a label die and tied on with yellow floss.  Can you tell I had a sunny day to take photographs outdoors?  It's certainly warming up here, and I'm really trying not to be sad about it!

I hope you have a great day, and thanks as always for stopping by my blog!

Birthday Flowers

Hi everyone!  I hope you all had a nice weekend and that your Mother's Day was as nice as mine was.  The weather here was just gorgeous and I spent a great deal of time outdoors with the dogs and in my garden.  Both of my lovely daughters called me and I have plans to go out for a Margarita with one in the very near future!

I spent some time yesterday making a few birthday cards.  May is a heavy birthday month for me!  This one uses an image from Squigglefly called Dogwood Delight.  I printed it out larger than I would normally use it on a card because I only wanted to use the top part of it.

I used Copic markers to color it, and the sentiment is computer generated.  I used a photo corner punch to fish tail the ends of the sentiment banner.

We got more progress made on our house.  The tilers will be here (hopefully) Thursday of this week.  I patched  up the areas on the walls where we had a railing cut down, and Brock patched the ceiling where the columns were.  I've gotten all of the stuff out of the furniture that needs to be moved and packed into boxes. We have moved a couple of pieces into the garage and just have heavier items we're still using for now left.

Brock has gone through the house and removed all of the carpet tack strips so it just needs to be rolled up and taken out when they're ready to begin tiling.  Baxter has gotten pretty used to the banging we've been doing, so hopefully that is preparing him for what's to come.  If not, we do have some doggie tranquilizers ready for him!

Enjoy your Monday, and don't forget about the new challenge that begins today on Squigglefly's blog!

If you give a mouse a cupcake...

Hi everyone!  Is your week going by as quickly as mine?  I swear I can't believe that it's already Friday tomorrow.  Not that I'm complaining!

Did you ever read the children's book, If You Give A Mouse A Cookie?  Well, that is what I kept thinking about when I made today's card.  I had such fun making this!   I used one of Diane Carubia's newest images called Curly's Cupcake.  Isn't it such a sweet image?

I used Copic markers for the coloring and enjoyed matching the stripes on his shirt to the stripes on the paper.  I added a little bit of stickles to the frosting on the cupcake.  The rest was just fun mixing up papers and adding embellishments.   The bigger button is actually a button die cut out of card stock.  The two smaller buttons are real buttons, but they are rather thick and make it harder to mail.

Enjoy your day, and thanks for stopping by!

I Can See Clearly Now...

Hi everyone!  The other day my husband had an eye doctor appointment, and he came home telling me that the lady who helps us choose and fit our glasses has a birthday this month.  He said he thought I should make her a card with some glasses on it.  So, after coming up with some really terrible puns I settled on this

I used the glasses from Squigglefly's Tropical Fun Pack , colored them with Copic markers and then added some crystal lacquer to the lenses.  I cut them out and popped them up on the card.  The sentiment is computer generated, then die cut with a label die and attached with some green ribbon.

The inside of the card reads "it's time to wish you a happy birthday!"

The tiles for our floors are supposed to arrive today, so we should be getting the work started tomorrow.  We had some wooden columns and a low railing that separated our front entry way from our living room.  They came and cut those out earlier in the week, and I can't begin to tell you what a difference that little thing made!  We've still got some patching to do in the ceiling and on the walls where the rails were removed, but man does it ever make the room look bigger.  I'm starting to get a little excited to see how the tile looks on the floor now that most of the hard work is out of the way!  Pictures will be coming soon.

Enjoy your Wednesday!

Enough With The Drama

Hi everyone!  I've got a fun card to share with you today using the brand new Llama Mama image from Squigglefly.  How could a card made with an image named "Llama Mama" be anything but fun?!  This image is by Lynne Stansbery, and it comes with the sentiment I used here as well as one more!

I had the llama image printed out waiting to be colored while I was working on another card.  I wanted to use some burlap in the background of the card, but it was frayed on one edge so I started to trim the frayed edge off.  As the little frayed edgings piled up on my desk I thought it looked like perfect llama fur!  I then proceeded to cut off more frayed edges to give my llama a little bit of hair on top of his head!

I love how it turned out!  I fishtail cut the sentiment and added a fun flower shaped button that is tied with some of the strands from the burlap.  (I don't know if that is a glare on the button or if my camera lens needed cleaning!)  I will be sending this card to a dear friend of mine who has more than enough drama in her life, and I know it will make her laugh.

Have a great day, and thanks for looking!

Hugs At The Outlawz

Hi everyone.  I hope you had a good weekend.  I am happy to say that my mojo made a slight return this weekend.  I got all of my errands and weekend cooking done on Saturday and spent most of Sunday working on cards.

I thought the Clean and Simple challenge at the Outlawz would be a good way to start, and their theme - Hug A Pet was one that I loved.  I thought the My Doggie image by Lynne Stansbery at Squigglefly was the perfect image for the challenge too.  I mean you can get more in with the Hug A Pet theme than this can you?

The image comes with this sentiment as well as several others.  I colored the image with Copic markers and cut one of the flowers out of the designer paper I used in the background as an embellishment.

There's a new challenge happening at the Squigglefly blog today!  I hope you'll come play along with us!

Making A Splash!

Hi again!  I don't know if you noticed or not, but Squigglefly has released all of their May images a few days early!  Go check the store out and be sure to see that we have two new artists this month!  That's right, Dawn Collins and Pamela Lehto have joined Squigglefly's artists!  I know you will love their images.  I slowly feel my creativity returning and plan on spending tomorrow creating as many cards as I can!

Today I've got another card I made while trying to coax my mojo back into existence.  I used an image by Cheryl Alger called Polly Swims In The Bath

I colored the image with Copic markers and printed it out twice so I could pop her out a bit.  The sentiment is computer generated and I added a couple of buttons on either side of the sentiment.  I also added some glitter to the soap bubbles for a little extra fun.

I think it's a darling image and I enjoyed coloring it.  The layout was kept fairly simple so I didn't scare my mojo away!

Thanks for checking in to my blog!  Hopefully I'll have a full week of cards to share with you next week!  Have a great weekend!

Two cuties

Well in an effort to find my muse, I decided to play in one of my favorite challenge - the Featured Stamper Challenge at Splitcoast Stampers.  It did not take me long to find a card in her gallery that I wanted to CASE.  You can see her beautiful card here.

For my card, I started off with the Best Buds image by Jackie Matthews, and removed the flowers.  I printed it off twice so that I could cut out the leaf and pop it up.  The sentiment is also from Squigglefly and is called Bloom With Happiness.

My flower was created with a Spellbinders rolled flower die.  I cut it out of pink card stock and then rubbed the edges with some darker pink ink.  This is the first time I've tried making a rolled flower with a die, and I found it very easy to do.  I held it together with a  little glue.  I added a few swirls of stickles for some sparkle and punched butterflies in the corner of the sentiment.  The holes in the scalloped circle were made with a paper piercer.  At the very last minute I decided to add a little grass in the pot with some scraps from a grass punch.

I think it turned out pretty cute, but it will be a tough one to mail.  I'll probably save this one to hand deliver some day!  Want to see something else that's cute?

Doesn't he look regal?  He was just hanging out with me enjoying the spring and I had to snap his picture!  Enjoy your day!
