Quilted warmth

Hi everyone!  Good news on the dog front - Baxter got weighed at the vet's office and has lost about four pounds so far!  We were all really happy and the vet was proud of us.  He's still got about 6 more pounds to go.

This Saturday Squigglefly will be having new images hit the store. One of them is a set of two quilt sentiments.  I decided to make a few cards using the sentiments, and I paired them with one of the wonderful quilts in Diana Garrison's Quilt Set.  This set comes with the image I used here as well as another quilt using larger squares, and a really cute quilted heart.

This image is so relaxing to color.  You don't have to worry about shading or anything, and it's fun to pick different colors for the different patterns.  I was just going for bright!   On the first one I printed the sentiment out and just attached it directly to the card.

On the next two, I printed the sentiment out on vellum and wrapped it around the card.  I like having the colors of the quilt show through.

Have a great day, and thanks for stopping by my blog!

Flower pot fairy

Happy Monday morning!  There are a lot of challenges that have Christmas themes right now, and I desperately need to make some Christmas cards, but I just haven't been in the mood!  So, here's a  birthday card using an image drawn by Diane Carubia called Flower Pot Fairy.

She's colored with Copic markers and the ground and sky are chalked.  I added some stickles to her wings, as well as the wings on the little bear.
There's a brand new challenge on the Squigglefly blog today.  I hope you'll go see what the design team has done and play along with us!

A Birthday In Purple!

Hi everyone!  How amazing is it that we had temperatures in the high sixties last night?  I don't think I've ever seen that in JULY in ARKANSAS before!  Sure made for some nice weather this morning when I had the dogs out!  Not cool enough to keep the mosquitoes away however - I have so many bites on me it's ridiculous.  And I hate putting on bug spray, so don't even mention it to me!

I have a birthday card to share today.  This card originally started out as a card I was making for the featured stamper challenge at Splitcoast Stampers, but it got away from me a bit so I never posted it there.

The image is one from Diane Carubia and is available at Squigglefly now.  It's called Hold On Tight Now  I used Copic markers to color the image.  The little dots around the image were made by sponging some ink on a stencil.  I could never get my circles that straight without a stencil!

Now I'll bet you think I'm going to tell you the sentiment was computer generated, but surprise!  it's actually cropped from another digi image from Squigglefly by Robin Willis called Make A Wish Cake.  I used a photo punch from Stampin' Up! to make the little flag banners.  The little different colored gems were just added for interest.  I think the card turned out really cute, and you can't beat that it's got a lot of purple in it!  I love purple!

Enjoy your day - tomorrow's Friday so hang in there!

You Have My Heart

Hi everyone!  Thank you so much for the birthday wishes yesterday!  I had a really nice birthday - first of all we got some rain!  We needed it so badly too.  It rained in the morning, and then another really good downpour yesterday evening.  After work I was met at a restaurant by my husband and youngest daughter who treated us to chips, cheese dip, and a birthday Margarita!  Then one of my sisters surprised me with homemade stuffed artichokes and some gourmet cupcakes!

Today's card came together really quickly.  I used one of the newest images from Diana Garrison called You Have My Heart .  It's colored with copic markers and the heart has glitter added to it.  I chalked the sky.   The sentiment was computer generated, and then I cut out the cloud shape with a die.

I hope you have a fabulous day!  Thanks for stopping by!

Sharing Lunch

Hi everyone!  Did you have a nice weekend?  I finally feel like I'm back in my normal routine.  Being away last weekend took some catching up!  I didn't get a lot of crafting time in, but I did manage to make a few cards.

The card I'm showing you today uses an older Squigglefly image called Sharing Lunch.

I think it's a sweet image. I colored it with Copic markers and chalked some of the background.  I'm still thinking now that I need to add a sentiment in the lower right corner - it looks a little blank there.

Today is a brand new challenge on the Squigglefly blog to use baby blue or pretty pink!  I hope you'll go see what the design team has done and play along with us!  My card of course is using pretty pink!

This Bud's For You

Hi everyone!  Well we're one day closer to Friday!  We have our phone lines back at work, but we still don't have internet service which has made getting some things done very difficult.  It's really amazing how dependent on the internet we've become isn't it?

We have to put Baxter on a diet.  The vet said he has simply gained too much weight, and now we have the daunting task of getting him slimmed down.  I guess we felt sorry for him because he was half starved when he came to us, and he does love his food!  She told me that he could have green beans, and I said "I'm sure he could have ltos of things but I doubt he'll eat them."  He doesn't eat green beans if we just hand him one, but we've been cutting them up in his food thinking the extra food will at least make him feel fuller.  He doesn't seem to notice them in his food.

Today I have a card with an image by Pamela Lehto called For All You Do.   It comes with the sentiment shown as well as the rest of it which is on the inside of my card and says "This buds for you."  I happen to be in need of a thank you card because while I was gone Riley dug up and pulled on the wires leading to our air conditioner and took the AC out!  Brock had to call my boss to come out on a Sunday to do the repair!

I used Copic markers to color the image, and I thought the designer paper was the perfect compliment to the color of the rose.  Once I had it colored though, I thought it was weird that I used a white wine color for the liquid in the glass - I mean if you had a rose bud in a glass you'd probably use water - not a white wine!  Oh well, what's done is done and the color of the liquid goes well with the paper too!

Enjoy your day - and if you have time to play in a challenge today why not play in Squigglefly's challenge?!  There's still plenty of time - and so far no winner!

Birds and Ladybugs

Good morning everyone!  I'm in a real hurry this morning, so let's just get right to the card!

The image is one of three in a set called Birds and Ladybugs by Cheryl Alger.   The image is one from Jess Holland called A Little Birdie.  The image is colored with Copic markers and I added some stickles to the water.

Busy day at work yesterday.  The phones and internet were down which means we had to get a little creative to get our calls from the answering service!  On the plus side, it did give me time to catch up on the work I was behind in from being away for a couple of days!  I am hoping the phone and internet service are back today though.

Enjoy your Wednesday!

I'm Back!

Hi everyone!  I hope your weekend was a good one.  I got back from my trip late yesterday afternoon.  We had a good visit, but it was good to get home.  I had been worried about Baxter.  I was afraid he would think I had abandoned him or something.  The first night away I asked Brock if Baxter started looking for me at the time I usually get home from work, and he said "He's acting like everything's just normal."  I was glad that he wasn't worried with me away, but it kind of hurt that he wasn't missing me!  When I got home though, he more than made up for it with doggie kisses and tail wags!

Here's a card I made last weekend while I had time.  This one uses a flower from Flower Friends by Michelle Bertuzzi   I had been surfing some galleries at Splitcoast Stampers and ran across a card made by Vicki Parson that I liked, so this card is a CASE from that.  Unfortunately, I didn't save a link to the card!

I printed the image in a little smaller version a couple of times directly onto the card.  The main image was printed out larger and then cut out.  It's colored with Copic markers.  The sentiment is computer generated and the paper is some really pretty purple mulberry paper that I've had in my stash for years.

I'm sure I'll have a load of work waiting for me when I get to work this morning, but that will only make the day go faster!  I hope your day is a fun one!  Remember to check out Squigglefly's new blog challenge!

Shy Bear Blog Hop!

Hi everyone!  Today Squigglefly is having a very special blog hop dedicated to  Melissa Chettle and her son Justin.  Melissa was a friend of Squigglefly Design Team member, Charlene Mitchell.  she died very unexpectedly at the end of June, at only 43 years old!
Melissa loved the Shy Bears, and had asked Charlene to make a bunch of Shy Bear cards for her which you  may have seen on her blog posts.   Unfortunately she never got to see and enjoy the cards.

Charlene wanted to honor her friend with this blog hop of Shy Bear cards, and many of the Squigglefly design team have joined in this celebration of Melissa today.  Charlene has listed more information about Melissa on her personal post.   If you get lost on the hop, just check out the order on the Squigglefly blog.

For my card, I have chosen Snail Mail Shy Bear.  I'm sure Melissa was going to send out her Shy Bear cards to friends and family to brighten their day, so that's why I chose this one.

The sentiment comes from a Squigglefly image called Pretty Little Piggies by Lynne Stansbery  who is also the artist of all of the Shy Bear images.  The image was colored with Copic markers and the sky was chalked.

Enjoy the hop, and be sure to comment on all of the cards in the hop because there will be a prize given to one lucky person!  Here's the blog hop order so you don't miss any!

Cone Flowers

Hi everyone!  I hope your week is going well.  Tomorrow I will be leaving town with one of my sisters.  We will be going to visit our other sisters for an extended weekend.  I'm not looking forward to the drive, but I am looking forward to the visit.  I do plan on having tomorrow's post pre-scheduled for the Shy Bear blog hop we will be doing, so please stop by!

Today I've got a card using some beautiful Cone Flowers drawn by the very talented Diana Garrison.  I love cone flowers and enjoyed coloring these.  The sentiment is from a new artist that just joined Squigglefly, although she is not new to Squigglefly at all - Charlene Mitchell, one of Squigglefly's design team members has started submitting some beautiful word art!  This sentiment is part of a set of three called Thinking Of You.

This was colored with Copic markers and the sky was chalked.  A very simple card, but so enjoyable to make!

I will be traveling back home on Monday, so I'll see you on Tuesday!  Please have a great weekend!

Birthday Baby

Hi everyone!  Happy hump day!  Things are strange in our household lately.  Riley, the fearless was outside July 4th night and got scared of fireworks!  She's never been afraid of fireworks before, and these fireworks weren't even nearby.  When I let her inside she came running through the house and went into the bathroom (someplace she never goes).  Well, I've found her in the bathroom several mornings now and I don't know if it's because she feels safe there or if she has just decided it's a good place to sleep!

On top of that, she has now become the barker and Baxter is the quiet one!  Yesterday Brock turned on the vacuum cleaner and I heard barking like mad.  I went in there to tell Baxter to cool it, but it was Riley barking and Baxter was standing there looking at me like "she's gone crazy!"  I don't know what's up with this nutty dog!

I've got a card today that I had such fun making.  I used an image by Fawn Palmer called Baby Upside Down.  The image comes with two wonderful sentiments, but the one on my card was computer generated and does not come with the set.

I did not need a baby card, but I really wanted to color this image so I made it into a birthday card!

Here's the inside

I love making funny cards - they just put me in a good mood!  I hope it made you smile this morning!

A challenge card

Hi everyone!  Yesterday the Squigglefly Design Team blew me away with their post!  I was so surprised and so very touched by all of the wonderful cards they made for me!  If you haven't been to the blog, jump on over there and you'll see what I mean!

Today I'm showing you another card I made over the weekend - this time for the Featured Stamper challenge at Splitcoast Stampers.  The card I chose to case can be seen HERE.

For my card, I used one of Squigglefly's newest images by Fawn Palmer called Just Flying By.  It comes with the sentiment and has three different endings you can use on the inside of your card.

I colored the image with Copic markers and chalked the sky.  I then added little tri-dots of blue stickles and a small butterfly.  I added the little dots because they were in the card I was CASING, but once I added them I didn't really like them there that much.  I guess they do add a bit of sparkle, but not much else.  I really liked the ones on the card I CASED though!

Yesterday was a scorcher and today is supposed to be more of the same.  I have to say though that this kind of weather is sure good for business - my phone rang off the hook at work yesterday!  I hope you're staying cool!

Sum Sum Summertime

Hi everyone!  I hope you had a great holiday and that you were lucky enough to stretch it out to a four day weekend like I was!  I really enjoyed the time off and got a ton of cards made - which is a good thing since I'm going out of town next weekend.

The card I want to share with you today is one I made for the Outlawz Paper A la mode Challenge where the theme is Summer.

The image is one of two chairs in a set by Fawn Palmer called Antique Rocking Chairs.  This image reminds me of people sitting out on their porches at the end of a summer's day enjoying a cool night breeze.  Unfortunately, our cooler nights have left us, but it was sure nice while it lasted!

The image is colored with Copic markers and the sentiment was computer generated.  I was humming that song the whole time I made this card!

Today is a new challenge on the Squigglefly blog - don't forget to go check it out!  Squigglefly also had a whole slew of new images released over the weekend and the design team will be showcasing them in the challenge!

Shy About Your Birthday?

Hi everyone!  Are you ready for Independence Day tomorrow?  I am certainly ready to have a day off with nothing to do other than what I want to do!  With this wonderful cooler weather we are having, we will be able to go see the fireworks and not melt away!

Squigglefly's design team member, Charlene Mitchell has been doing lots of cards with Shy Bear images for a dear friend.  Her friend loved the Shy Bears and she asked Charlene to make a bunch of cards for her - using any image and any theme.  Charlene has been posting some fabulous cards.  Here's a link to her blog in case you've missed them - just scroll through and enjoy!

Unfortunately, Charlene's friend recently died unexpectedly and never got to see the cards Charlene was making for her.  Charlene wants to have a special blog hop to honor her friend and lots of the Squigglefly design team will be doing just that on July 12th.  We are all going to use Shy Bear images because that's what Melissa loved!  I hope you'll mark your calendars to come to the hop!

Anyway, while I was looking through all the Shy Bear images, I found so many that I loved that I couldn't just do one!  This one is called Birthday Bear.  All of the Shy Bears are drawn by

I paired it with Birthday Wishes by Jess Holland.    I just changed the color to purple before printing.  The image is colored with Copic markers and I added some yellow stickles to the top of the party hat.

With all of the purple in this card, I could probably enter it in the Purple Passion challenge at Squigglefly, but I've already entered one card - why don't YOU go play?  There's still plenty of time!

Floral Birthday

Hi everyone!  I hope your week is off to a good start.  We have been enjoying the unusually cool evenings here so much!  I don't think I've ever seen it get in the sixties at night during July, but it's just fabulous!

Here's a card I made over the weekend.  It's a pretty clean and simple card.  I wanted the image to be the main focus.  The image is one from Pamela Lehto called Flower Cake, and the sentiment is one of my most used sentiments by Jess Holland called Birthday Wishes.

The image was colored with Copic markers and then cut out and mounted on to the designer paper.  The sentiment was printed directly on to the paper.

Thanks for stopping by my blog, and have a great day!

A Passion For Purple

Hi everyone!  What a glorious weekend we had.  We had a little cool front move in, and it gave us a respite from the heat.  It was in the high sixties at night, which was wonderful and really unusual for us!

The mama bird was busy all weekend long feeding her babies.  One is a little further advanced than the other and ventured outside of his nest on to the roll of bags in their box.

I love the little bit of fuzz around his head!  Here's a closer look

By yesterday afternoon he was gone.  I missed his flight, but I saw the mother bird darting and calling from tree to fence.  The other one is still inside the nest and squealing for food.  The noise they make when hungry is kind of like a high pitched radio frequency rather than a chirp.  We have enjoyed watching them.

I found a recipe somewhere on line for some cookies that sounded scrumptious.  I decided to make them to take to work on Monday.  They are by far the best cookie I've ever made.  They are chewy, but crunchy - really delicious!  I don't share recipes that often, but this one is a definite keeper!

Chocolate Malted Crunch Cookies

1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
3/4 cup malted milk powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp fine-grain sea salt ( I used regular table salt)
2 sticks unsalted butter (room temperature)
1 1/2 cups light or dark brown sugar
2 eggs (room temperature)
3/4 cup milk chocolate chips
1 cup rice krispies cereal

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
In a medium bowl whisk together the flour, malt powder, baking soda, and salt.

In a large bowl cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.  Add the first egg and beat until combined.  Add the second egg and beat one more time until incorporated.  Add the flower mixture in two batches mixing until there are no specks of flour.  Fold in the chocolate chips and then fold in the rice krispies.

Drop spoonfuls onto cookie sheet and bake about 10 minutes.  Let cool before removing from cookie sheet.
This recipe makes about 32 cookies.

Our oldest daughter came to visit us on Saturday, and she brought a gift.  It's an automatic vacuum cleaner similar to a Roomba called a Neato.  She said she has had a Roomba and didn't like it, but she loves the Neato.  We set it up and waited for it to clean, and then we expected Baxter to go berserk barking at it.  To our surprise he calmly watched it and didn't make a sound!  He's getting better!  Riley chased it for a bit, but one admonishment from us stopped her.  We were very surprised and pleased with the job it did!

Today there is a new challenge on the Squigglefly blog, and it's one I just love because it involves my favorite color!  The challenge is Purple Passion.  Just use a lot of purple in your card!  Here's my card using Fawn Palmer's very fun image A Corset And Fishnets

Isn't this a fabulous image?  It comes with this sentiment as well as one more.  I hope you'll play along in the challenge too!
