The mama bird was busy all weekend long feeding her babies. One is a little further advanced than the other and ventured outside of his nest on to the roll of bags in their box.
I love the little bit of fuzz around his head! Here's a closer look
By yesterday afternoon he was gone. I missed his flight, but I saw the mother bird darting and calling from tree to fence. The other one is still inside the nest and squealing for food. The noise they make when hungry is kind of like a high pitched radio frequency rather than a chirp. We have enjoyed watching them.
I found a recipe somewhere on line for some cookies that sounded scrumptious. I decided to make them to take to work on Monday. They are by far the best cookie I've ever made. They are chewy, but crunchy - really delicious! I don't share recipes that often, but this one is a definite keeper!
Chocolate Malted Crunch Cookies
1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
3/4 cup malted milk powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
3/4 tsp fine-grain sea salt ( I used regular table salt)
2 sticks unsalted butter (room temperature)
1 1/2 cups light or dark brown sugar
2 eggs (room temperature)
3/4 cup milk chocolate chips
1 cup rice krispies cereal
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
In a medium bowl whisk together the flour, malt powder, baking soda, and salt.
In a large bowl cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add the first egg and beat until combined. Add the second egg and beat one more time until incorporated. Add the flower mixture in two batches mixing until there are no specks of flour. Fold in the chocolate chips and then fold in the rice krispies.
Drop spoonfuls onto cookie sheet and bake about 10 minutes. Let cool before removing from cookie sheet.
This recipe makes about 32 cookies.
Our oldest daughter came to visit us on Saturday, and she brought a gift. It's an automatic vacuum cleaner similar to a Roomba called a Neato. She said she has had a Roomba and didn't like it, but she loves the Neato. We set it up and waited for it to clean, and then we expected Baxter to go berserk barking at it. To our surprise he calmly watched it and didn't make a sound! He's getting better! Riley chased it for a bit, but one admonishment from us stopped her. We were very surprised and pleased with the job it did!
Today there is a new challenge on the Squigglefly blog, and it's one I just love because it involves my favorite color! The challenge is Purple Passion. Just use a lot of purple in your card! Here's my card using Fawn Palmer's very fun image A Corset And Fishnets
Isn't this a fabulous image? It comes with this sentiment as well as one more. I hope you'll play along in the challenge too!
