What a difference a year makes!

Hi everyone!  I hope your week is going well.  One year ago today we brought Baxter home from the animal shelter and made him a part of our home.  He was missing hair, had sores all over his body, and was very underweight - but he was the sweetest little guy!  (sorry these first two pictures are blurry - I couldn't get him to stay still!)

Over this past year we've discovered a lot of things scare him.  He didn't like the can opener, the blender, car doors, lawn mowers, fly swatters, sneezes, or very many people!  He didn't know what a dog toy was or how to play.  Through the past year we have helped him overcome many of these fears, and he has most definitely learned how to play!  He has gotten back his hair and his weight (maybe a little too much!).  He can handle the can opener, the blender, car doors, lawn mowers, and fly swatters, but he still hates it when we sneeze!  He is uncomfortable when people come over, but he is so much better than he used to be!

He has really fit right into our family.  He's been good for Riley too.  They play together every day, and when we go to the dog park now Riley is much better with the other dogs.  Here is Baxter today

I also have a card to share with you.  This one is one I made with an image from Squigglefly called Sunflowers Gone Wild.  It's drawn by Lynne Stansbery.

I colored it with Copic markers and the only embellishment I used was some ribbon.   The sky was chalked with some blue chalk.

Wow Holly, it's been a year already! He's a gorgeous dog!

Your card is great also. It makes me want to put aside my knitting and quilting and start coloring again!

Greetings from Buffalo, NY! What a beautiful dog you have Holly, he certainly has come a long way. Thanks so much for rescuing him and for sharing your story! Your card is beautiful also, looks like it took hours to color! I camp in the country in the summer and every year a family nearby plants a field of miniature sunflowers, so cool to see! Thanks again, Debbie Pokerwinski

As you know, Lynne is one of my favorite artists and you did a fabulous job coloring this image. Of course, you always do! As for Baxter ---WOW, what a difference, indeed, a year makes. He's a beautiful dog; you have done wonders with him. And he's a very lucky dog to be given a second chance with you and your family! All dogs should have it so good. Guess I better get busy and post pics of Burger's new buddy.

WOW!! he is gorgeous and you can tell by that smiling face that he is oh so loved!!! "Rescuing a dog from a shelter might not change the world but, that dog's world will change forever." I read that quote somewhere. God Bless you for opening your heart and your home to him.
