It's always hard to make sympathy cards

but there are bound to be times when you have to.  Unfortunately, a friend of mine lost her mother recently.  She and her mother were very close and so I found myself having to make a sympathy card.    The first image that came to my mind was the image at Squigglefly by Lynne Stansbery called
The Power Of Prayer.  This image speaks volumes by itself, but the sentiment does come with the image.

I colored the image with Copic markers and sponged a little ink around the edge of the image panel.  The sentiment was also sponged a little while it was still in the oval die.

Yesterday we had a lot of cold rain, but even though we were under a "winter weather advisory" we never got any sleet or snow.  It wasn't for the lack of me crossing my fingers!  LOL!

I wish you a fantastic Tuesday!

It's A Banner Day

Hi everyone!  Did you have a good weekend?  Ours was really great - lots of outdoor time since the weather was so chilly!  It's so nice to be outside playing with the dogs not sweating and getting bit by mosquitoes!   I will share pictures of our outing in the woods at the end of the post if you're interested.

Today I have the honor of playing with Squigglefly's design team!  Kathy Bradley has been sick and wasn't able to make a card this week, so I stepped in!  The challenge is Banners!  Make a card that has a banner or use an image that has a banner in it.  I used the Jane's Bakery set by Jane Beljo for my card.  It has a cute banner in the set.  I also used one of the cupcakes and the candle.  The sentiment is from Stampin Up!.

I colored with Copic markers and added some yellow stickles to the candle flame and a bit of glitter to the cupcake frosting.  I hope you'll play along with us and show us your banners!

Here are some pictures of the dogs having a blast in the woods.  I noticed that Baxter sure blended in with the leaves, and Riley would blend in with the fallen trees!

Baxter loves to walk the logs!

When we first arrived there were a lot of people at the entrance to the woods taking pictures.  Here's the entrance

When we were leaving we could see a lot of feathers on the ground.  I think one of the photographers used the feathers to make it look like snow was on the ground.  Does it look like snow to you?

It's A Star - It's A Snowman - It's Star Man!

Hi everyone!  I hope your week is going well.  I'm glad it's almost over!  I see some blogs where people post cards for a gazillion challenges and I'm always so impressed.  I am excited just to have two challenges for today's card!  This is for the Squigglefly challenge to use ribbon or lace, and also for the Paper Ala Mode challenge at Outlawz which is to use stars or snowflakes.  With my cute Star Man image by Carmen Gamble I have used both!

I colored the image with Copic markers and used stickles along the edges.  I used a shimmer gel pen on the jingle bell buttons.  The sentiment is computer generated.  update - Thanks to Linda Weber for pointing out my typo!

I am on top of things this week.  I already have my menu planned out for next week, and I've mailed out the last of my November birthday card list!  Next week's weather looks to be a wonderful one for a park outing with the dogs.  Some parts of our state (alas, not my part) might get snow!  I'll bet none of the snowflakes that fall look as cute as this star shaped snow man though!

The Post That Almost Wasn't

Hi everyone!  Welcome to the blog post that almost didn't happen!  I had a date last night with my best friend to go to the library to see a Recovery 9/11 exhibit.  I was supposed to go to her house after work, and then we were going to go from there. The problem is it completely slipped my mind and she called me minutes after I arrived at home to remind me!  I rushed to her house full of apologies and we went to the exhibit.  Very thought provoking and sad - not to mention the library itself brought up recollections of our high school years since it's the same library we went to all through high school!

Anyway, I get home from that and Brock is wiped out.  He had spent the day blowing all of our leaves out to the street for the leaf collector.  The dogs on the other hand are full of energy, happy to see someone not wiped out!  LOL!  After playing with them a bit, I went and took my bath and if Brock hadn't still been wiped out I probably wouldn't have taken the time to do this blog post!  But he was, so you all get to see my offering for the day.

I made this for the Free4All Challenge at Splitcoast Stampers where they challenged us to make a birthday card.  My birthday card is in dire straits and really needed a few more, so I was all in!

My card uses an image from Squigglefly called Allie Kisses A Bluebird   and is drawn by Cheryl Grant Alger.  The sentiment is also from Squigglefly and is called A Little Birdie by Jess Holland.

I colored with Copic markers and chalked the sky.  The grass was over stamped with some grass sprigs, and I added a little button in the center of the sentiment.

Some Days...

Hi everyone!  Today I've got another card I made when I was on my "funny card" roll last week.  This one was made for the woman who happens to be the artist of the image and sentiment I used - none other than Marlene Shaw.  The image and sentiment are in Squigglefly's "after dark" section and is called

Well Marlene has a birthday coming up this week, and I thought it would be good to send her a birthday card using one of  her own images.  I have been trying to talk Marlene in drawing again because she has such a great sense of humor.  So I'm asking you all to go by Marlene's Facebook Page  and wish her a happy birthday (witch is this Friday) and urge her to start drawing for Squigglefly again!

I colored the image with Copic markers and added a doily and a punched flower.  Don't forget about the challenge at the Squigglefly Blog!  Just use lace or ribbon on your project!

Skinny Jeans

Hi everyone!  I hope you had a good weekend.  Mine was okay.  I didn't get enough sleep on Friday night, so Saturday was kind of spent in a fog.  Yesterday was spent catching up on stuff I didn't do on Saturday - plus it was hot as heck!  What's up with the weather turning tropical all of the sudden?  It was 80+ degrees yesterday!

Well, as promised here's the card I made for Stephanie using the sentiment I made with her funny ending.  I once again used the Up A Few Pounds image from Squigglefly, but I turned the card around and used some different designer paper and some purple rain dots in the corners.

I had to take Baxter to the vet on Saturday.  He has been scratching at his eye the last few days, and I noticed on Friday that the hair around his left eye was sparse and the skin was red around it.  It reminded me of that mange he had around his mouth last year.  The vet said it was just an allergic reaction to something.  I'm thinking maybe it has to do with the leaves because I had him playing in a pile of leaves a few days ago.  In any case, we have to rub this ointment around his eye and on his chin twice a day for about ten days.  I could already see a difference in how it looked yesterday morning.  He is so good and trusting letting me medicate him.

Today begins a new challenge on the Squigglefly blog!  This week's challenge is as easy as they come - just add ribbon or lace to your project!  I hope you'll play along with us this week!  I'll be back tomorrow to show you a couple of cards I made for some challenges.  Enjoy your Monday!

Being Optimistic

Hi everyone!  Happy Friday!  We had the best afternoon at the park yesterday!  The dogs were really pumped up, and couldn't hardly contain their excitement when they saw us getting ready to go.  The day was beautiful and perfect. Riley was so excited and tested her limits with us getting out of bounds a few times.  Baxter was the perfect gentleman though and stayed right by us.  He would get ahead of us on the path and then turn around and check to make sure we were still there.  He was hunting though too!  He found the first squirrel hole (or whatever animal made that hole his home!) that had Riley scratching like mad.

One thing that was funny was a few times Riley got a little too far out and out of bounds and we would call for her.  After the first few times when Riley came back by us, Baxter started "herding" her in, and would grab fur on her back with his mouth to keep her on the path.

Okay, today's card is made for a dear friend and also for the Squigglefly challenge which is to use polka dots.    P.S.  So far there is no winner for this challenge, so if you play you have a good chance to win!

I have a few polka dots in the designer paper, but if you look closely you will also see polka dots on her panties!  LOL!  This image is from Squigglefly and was drawn by my youngest daughter Chesney Young.  The image is called Up A Few Pounds.  Now the sentiment is one from me, but I came up with some many different sentiments that would be fun for this image that I made up a set of five different ones.  It will be available at Squigglefly during their December release.    However, I asked on my facebook page for people to finish the sentence "Trying to get into skinny jeans is like ..."  I promised a prize to the winner.  The winner turned out to be Stephanie Barber who came up with "giving birth in the opposite direction."  There were other entries I liked, but Stephanie's had me laughing out loud!  So Stephanie won a card from me with this image and her sentiment!  I will post a picture of the card when I finish it, but since that particular sentiment isn't in the set of sentiments I made for Squigglefly I am offering it to you free if you happen to find it as funny as I do!

As for my card, I used Copic markers to color it, but I chalked the sentiment.    I hope you like the sentiment, and I also hope you will check out the other sentiments when they are released in December.  I have also used this image with the sentiment "the stuffing that comes AFTER Thanksgiving!"  LOL!  Isn't that just so true?
Enjoy your weekend!  I'll see you all on Monday!

Don't Let Aging Get You Down

Hi everyone!  Well the weatherman didn't lie - the cold front came in just like he said!  I am so looking forward to getting into the woods today, and I know the dogs are!

I've got another card I made when I was on my funny card roll.  I told you to expect more from me this week!  I used one of my favorite images - The Old Sot - by Lynne Stansbery and available at Squigglefly.  She comes with a lot of fun sayings, and I used one of them on this card.

I colored the image with Copic markers and just added a ribbon to the designer paper.  Easy peasy!

Enjoy your hump day!

That's not a carrot - it's my NOSE!

Hi everyone!  Today's card was made for last week's Paper Ala Mode challenge at the Outlawz where the theme was Snowmen.  Unfortunately I didn't finish it in time to enter the challenge - but yesterday's Greeting Card challenge at the Outlawz has SNOW for the theme, so I'm still able to use this card for a challenge!

This image is one from Squigglefly and it's drawn by Judith Hart.  It's called  I Smell Carrots.  I just love the subject matter of so many of Judith's images.  I colored this with Copic markers and added a little bit of stickles to the snowman.  I used some snow tex at the bottom for the snow.  With some snowflake paper and big chunky snowflake at the top I'd say that I have the snow part of the challenge covered!

There is a freeze warning in effect for us tonight, which I am so excited about!  The temperatures are supposed to be dropping all day today and end up in the mid twenties.  Tomorrow the high is only going to be about 45, so I am taking half a day off so that we can get the dogs out into the woods.  We have all been anxiously waiting for it to get cold enough to be able to enjoy the woods.

Tickle A Friend

Hi everyone!  I hope you had a good weekend.  Mine went by too fast, but it was really nice.  Such perfect, beautiful fall weather!  Yesterday was my card making day.  I checked out the challenges and found  the Outlawz Friday Alcohol Marker Challenge  had a fun challenge -  to tickle their funny bone.  I love funny cards.  They are my most favorite card to make.  I made this one, and then just got a roll with funny cards, so expect to see several funny cards from me this week!

I used a bra/pantie template that I got from Stamp Owl's blog.  Once I cut it out, I chalked it for color.  I stuck down a little lace, and then printed the template again on to some designer paper, and cut the pantie portion out and then stuck it down.  The sentiment is from Squigglefly and is available HERE.    It comes with this inside sentiment as well!

I will be sending this to the girl who cuts my hair.  She has such a great sense of humor, and I know she will get a kick out of this.

Today is a brand new challenge on the Squigglefly Blog.  I urge you to play along with us!  It's an easy and fun one this week - Use Polka Dots!

Pumpkins for Friday

Yay for the weekend!  All week long I've been a day behind so Friday should have been yesterday!  Seriously - part of my job is lining up calls for the guys to go on and Wednesday I handed a sheet of calls to one of them.  Then a man calls to see if we were still going to come to his house even though it was raining, and I looked at the calendar since I didn't have him on our call sheet and BAM!  I realized I was a day off!  So embarrassing, but so glad he called!

Today's card is one I made for the Friday Copic marker challenge at the Outlawz from last
Friday.  The theme of the challenge was pumpkins and I used a wonderful pumpkin image from Squigglefly called Pam's Pumpkins.  It's drawn by Pamela Lehto .

I love coloring pumpkins.  I don't know why, but I find it very enjoyable.  Maybe it's because it's one color with just different shades.  I don't know, but I had fun coloring this.  I chalked the sky.  The rest of the card was just a matter of picking papers and embellishments.  Easy peasy!

One last thing before I let you go.  Yesterday after work I went to get my hair cut.  It was way over due!  So I come home and Baxter comes running out to greet me like he always does.  We love on each other and then come inside where I proceed to play with both him and Riley.  Then I fix them both dinner. Baxter is eating his dinner, I had walked down the hall to close the blinds in our bedroom.  I walk out of the bedroom and down the hall and he just starts barking at me like I'm a total stranger!  Later he did the same thing when I walked out of the bathroom.  Brock said "maybe it's your hair cut" but I think that's nuts since we had met at the door and played together.  I don't know, but he was not happy with me last night!

Free Pears For All

So here's another card I made for a challenge.  This time the challenge is Friday Free 4 All at Splitcoast Stampers and the challenge is Falling Fruit which is to make a fall themed card using some kind of fruit.  I do know that pears are in season in the Fall, so I went with this Pear image by

I colored the image with Copic markers.  The sentiment is one I made on my computer a while back.  I added a die cut in the corner and tacked it down with some pearls.

Go round and round in circles

Hi everyone!  The card I made today was a fun one to do.  It's a twisted circle easel card.  You can find the simple instructions for making this here.

I made this for the Twisted Thursday challenge at the Outlaws where the challenge is to make a circle card.  When this card is closed, it is a circle.

This image is such a pretty one, and so different.  It's called Pumpkin Vase and is by
Elizabeta Kushner.  I colored it with Copic markers.  The sentiment is from Charlene Mitchell.  I added some pearls and an epoxy sticker flower not just to make it pretty, but also to prop the card open.

Have a great day!

Angel Trumpets

Hi everyone!  What a beautiful weekend we had.  The weather is perfect and the leaves on the trees are just gorgeous everywhere you look.  We were able to spend a lot of time outdoors, but I was also able to spend some time making cards.  It's so nice to have my mojo back!

The first card I made was for the Featured Stamper challenge at Splitcoast Stampers, and also for today's Squigglefly challenge which is make a square card.  If you want to see the card I CASED for the featured stamper challenge you can see it here.

For my card I used a new image from Pamela Lehto called Trumpet Angel.  The sentiment is from Charlene Mitchell and is available HERE.  I colored everything with Copic markers and added some snow tex for the snow on the ground and on the tree.  The wings have a little stickles for some sparkle.

I'm going to leave you with a picture I took of Baxter yesterday - he's just so photogenic!

A little news

I just wanted to pop in to tell you that there is still time to play in
Squigglefly's blog challenge, but not much!  You have to get your entry in by tomorrow - but I can tell you that there is no winner yet!
The challenge is to make a card showing someone you're thankful for them.  Easy, right?

And the other thing I wanted to tell you is that Squigglefly has their November images up!  There are some fantastic images that will get your Christmas spirit going!  I'm off to do some errands, but I have lots of cards I want to make when I get finished - yay!  I feel my muse returning!  See you on Monday!

Day Dream Believer

Hi everyone!  Did you survive Halloween?  I am sorry to say that I think Halloween has breathed it's last breath at our house.  The past few years we have seen fewer and fewer trick or treaters.  This year I only bought treats for some treat bags I made up for my boss's children.  I saved a few pieces of candy just in case we had a trick or treater or two, but today I'm bringing that candy to work for the guys.  Though I can understand the reasoning behind Halloween's departure, it still saddens me because Halloween was always such a fun holiday I enjoyed tremendously.   Anyway - I hope you had a fun and safe Halloween!

Today's card is another one I started making for a challenge, but I didn't finish it or post it in time for the challenge!  I think it was a challenge on the Outlawz, but I can't remember now which one it was for!  I do know that the theme of the challenge was "relax".  And here's my card

I'm sure you recognize the image as being one of Cheryl Grant Alger's.  This one is called A Penny For Your Thoughts.    I colored her with Copic markers and chalked the sky.  I also used my favorite grass sprig stamp over the green Copic color.

The cloud was cut with a die, and I chalked the edges of it as well so it would blend in more.  The sentiment is also from Squigglefly and is called Thinking of You and is by Charlene Mitchell.

I hope you have a great weekend!  I'll see you on Monday - I promise!
