It's Anything Goes at Paper Ala Mode

Hi Everyone!  I have been busy with Christmas stuff, but I did take time for Paper Ala Mode's last challenge of the year - Anything Goes.  This challenge is sponsored by A Day For Daisies.  I encourage you not only to go play in the challenge because of the fabulous prizes you can win, but to at least go see the cards the design team made for this challenge.  They are so wonderful!

I made two cards for the challenge.  The first one is a birthday card called H Is For Happy Birthday.  I love balloons on birthday cards, and I think the little animals on this one are cute and funny.

I made a Christmas card for my 2nd card because this sweet image A Special Gift  just called out to me.  I computer generated the sentiment.

If I'm not back here before Christmas, let me wish you all a truly blessed and joyous Christmas with your families.

Christmas at Paper Ala Mode

Hi everyone!  Today the paper ala mode challenge at the Outlawz is Christmas!  Our sponsor is My Besties and they chose the images we were supposed to use.  I chose a cute image that I think would be really great for Valentine's Day as well, but since they chose them I don't know the name of the image

I colored the image with Copic markers and added some puff pain to the trim on her boots and cuffs.  I also used some white gesso for the dots on her petticoat and hat.  The sentiment was computer generated.  I have to admit that I forgot the challenge was Christmas, so this is really more of a "winter time" card that Christmas.

I don't think I shared the card I made for the last Paper Ala Mode challenge which was birthdays.  We were sponsored by The Stamping Boutique and I used Audrey with Cupcake.

Please come play with us!  You can win some great prizes if you do!

Birthdays and Christmas at Paper Ala Mode

I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving!  Mine was really nice - I ate way too much!  Yesterday was kind of a lazy day making cards and watching it rain, but today I am off to do my usual grocery shopping and cooking.  If you want to see my menu for the week I will post it after the cards.

Today's Paper Ala Mode challenge is anything goes, and I made one Christmas card and three birthday cards.  I just loved the cute little Theodore Birthday Sign image from Bugaboo!  This was the first card I made with the image.  I didn't realize until later that it was a ladybug on top of the balloon, and I had colored the body of the bug blue and green because I thought it was another balloon!

Here is my 2nd birthday card with the same image.  This card is going to go to my grandson for his 1st birthday which is next month.

And my final birthday card with the same image - this one colored with pencils.  I also laid the image over a swiss dots embossing folder when coloring the letters.  It left a little texture but not what I had imagined it would do.

My Christmas card uses Make It Snappy Reindeer Trio.  The image comes with or without the sentiment, but I like having the sentiment on there for a quick card.  I think I will use this image again and add googly eyes.

My menu this week:
Meatloaf, mashed potatoes, green beans
Chicken Ala King with peas and rolls
Chicken, spinach and black bean egg rolls
Prairie pork chops, asparagus
Smoked sausage soup with ciabatta
Ham & cheese sandwiches with fries
Ceasar salad, baked potatoes

Paper Ala Mode and weekly menu

The Paper Ala Mode challenge this week is Thanksgiving.  We are being sponsored by Beccy's Place.  I chose an image called Bird On A Wire.  I love the image, and ended up making four cards with it!  I am showing them in order of my least favorite to my most favorite, so bear with me through the first couple of cards!

The first card was printed onto some textured cardstock with my printer at home.  I water colored it with watercolor pencils.

I did not put this card or the next one on the Paper Ala Mode challenge because there was no sentiment to let you know this was a Thanksgiving card.

My second card was printed on the same cardstock, but with my printer at work, and the ink did not stick well at all.  I went ahead and colored this one with colored pencils, but then I erased the toner ink and added my own lines with a pen.

The next two cards are the ones I put on the Paper Ala Mode challenge.  I had fun trying to color different birds.  Both of these were printed on my usual cardstock and colored with Copic markers

I hope you enjoyed the cards, and I urge you to play in the Paper Ala Mode Challenge because you can win some great prizes!

Today I've been doing my weekly cooking, and I know several of you like to hear my menu for the week so I will share

Broccoli Cheddar Soup served with toasted ciabatta bread
Pot Roast with red potatoes and carrots
Lemon Ginger Chicken thighs served with broccoli and rice
Fajitas - just green and red bell peppers, mushrooms, onion, and sliced steak simmered in a fajita seasoning served in warm tortillas with sour cream and salsa.
Crack Chicken Sandwiches served with side salad
Salisbury Steak with mashed potatoes and peas

I am not giving the link to the salisbury steak because I changed it up too much.  I want to add that the Crack Chicken and the Lemon Ginger Chicken thighs are both new recipes for me, but we did taste test them both and are looking forward to that meal!

I hope you all are having a great weekend!

1st Halloween

This is the Halloween card I made for my grandson's first Halloween.  He loves playing peek a boo, so I added the "peek a" to the image.

Halloween treats

Just wanted to share the Halloween treats I made for my boss's kids.  Wishing you all a happy Halloween!

Girl Power at Paper Ala Mode

Hi everyone!  Today's Paper Ala Mode Challenge is all about girls - just make a girly card!  The sponsor is The Stamping Boutique and I chose this ever so girly image Jennifer Latte Bubble Bath.

I used stickles for the soap suds and then added some pearly bubbles.  The sentiment is computer generated.    You need to come play with us and have a chance to win some great prizes!

Next weekend I'm planning on going to see my grandson, so this weekend is going to be spent cleaning house and doing some extra meal cooking.  My menu for the week is

Creole Chicken With Field Peas
Ham, Asparagus, and Wild Rice
Ginger Beef with Mushrooms and Spinach served over noodles  (the recipe actually calls for kale, but I'm subbing with spinach since I have some in the fridge already)
Sliced Turkey Breast with Dressing and Sweet Potato (someone must be thinking Thanksgiving)
Nacho Supreme Casserole
ordering in a supreme salad from our favorite pizza place
Tex Mex Lasagna

The Tex Mex Lasagna, Creole Chicken, and Nacho Supreme Casserole will make enough for me to freeze half to replenish what I take out of the freezer for next week.

Our weather this weekend is just gorgeous and I plan on enjoying it as much as possible in between chores.  I need to because hot weather returns on Monday.  Have a great weekend everyone!

Menu for the week and a Christmas card

whew!  I got my cooking for the week done!  This week we are having

hamburgers, baked potato fries
meatloaf, mashed potatoes, peas
salmon patties, roasted carrots
ham and cheese grilled in oven with side salad
eggs, sausage, biscuits
thai curry coconut shrimp served over jasmine rice
saucy meatballs, rice, green beans
The Thai curry coconut shrimp is a meal we had from Plated a few weeks ago.  Brock loved it, so I decided to try to re-create it.  The only thing I couldn't find at the grocery store was bamboo rice, so I subbed Jasmine rice instead.

Here is a Christmas card I found time to make too

I colored the image with some metallic pens and used a large background die of holly leaves.  I REALLY need to make more Christmas cards!  I hope you are all having a great weekend!

Texture at Paper Ala Mode

Hi everyone.  The Paper Ala Mode challenge at the Outlawz is in full swing, and our challenge this week is texture!  You can add texture to your project in so many different ways,  My card uses a beautiful angel from Morgan's Art World called Angel Wings.

I added texture to my card in several ways,  The most obvious way is the large die cut I used for the background.  There are a couple more ways I added texture though - if you look closely at the background behind the angel you can see the little white dots and the little glittered dots.  These dots are dimensional and have texture if you were able to feel it.  I also added some glittered tinsel thread around the the image which I think qualifies as texture.  And lastly, the wings are raised and glittered.
I got the sentiment as a freebie somewhere, but I can't for the life of me remember where!  I really need to get better about labeling the images I have.

This weekend I am happily playing with my little grandson Jacob.  He has grown so much since I last saw him, and is sweet as ever!  I can't believe he is already 9 months old.  Maybe I will have pictures to share with you next week.  Happy weekend everyone!

Frame It at Paper Ala Mode

The Paper Ala Mode challenge at the Outlawz is in full swing!  This week we want you to frame your image.  I used this cute Banner Smoochie from The Stamping Boutique and doodled a frame

What a fun weekend I had visiting Jacob.  He is one sweet boy!  I got lots of cuddles and smiles.

I absolutely hated leaving yesterday.  I will get to see him again in about a month.  He is almost 8 months old, and his upper front teeth are coming in.  He is such a good boy.

Today I've got some dragonfly cards to share with you.  I made these for a swap I joined where you make two cards using several of your "favorites".  One - this image from Diana Garrison called Dragonfly Garden is one of my all time favorite images.    I colored the images with my favorite medium - Copic markers and colored pencils, and I used my favorite embellishment - glitter.

Here they are individually:

The weather looks to be great this week!  I hope ya'll have a fantastic day!

Paper Ala Mode Is Just Around The Corner

Hi everyone!  As you are reading this I am traveling to Memphis to see my sweet little grandson.  I can't wait to see him.  He has two bottom teeth and a top tooth coming in now!  I expect to do lots of cuddling and laughing the next couple of days!

Today is Paper Ala Mode's challenge, and we have a fun challenge called Just Around The Corner.  the idea is to draw attention to the corners of your card in some way.  It can be done by folding over a corner revealing a sentiment or some pretty patterned paper, or maybe use one of the pretty corner dies or punches that out, or just pierce a design!  Whatever suits your fancy!

The sponsor this week is Morgan's Art World, and I used the very beautiful image called Mystical Mermaid.

I have to admit that I got so engrossed in coloring the image that by the time I started putting the card together I forgot all about the corner part of the challenge!  I ended up using a couple of photo corner punches to draw attention to the sentiment.

the image is colored with Copic markers, and I used a variety of ink pads to sponge color onto the background.  I also dotted some white dots around here and there and used some acrylic bubbles as embellishments.  If you look really closely you may be able to see some glitter on the mermaid's tail.

I hope you will come by and play along.  There's a chance to win some awesome prizes!

cracked roses

On a recent trip to Hobby Lobby I picked up some crackle by Tim Holtz.  It's supposed to give you a crackle effect in one step rather than the usual painting on a base layer and then later a crackle layer.  I used it on this image from Bugaboo Stamps called Beautiful Blocks - Faith

The effect is a crackle, but it's also got a dimpled look that is very different from the other two-step crackle.  It's also shinier.  I like it, but I think I prefer the two-step better.  Here's a closer look.  It kind of looks like elephant skin, doesn't it?

Back To School Fairy

My boss's kids started school yesterday.  The youngest one, who hangs out with me a lot in the office loves to get mail so I made her a card and had it in the mailbox waiting for her when she got home.

The little back to school fairy was a freebie I found on the internet.  I glittered the wings and colored the whole thing with Copic markers.

Paper Ala Mode Add Flowers

Today's Paper Ala Mode Challenge at the Outlawz is to Add Flowers!

I used this image from A Day For Daisies called Gathering Flowers.  The image itself has lots of flowers in it, but then I also punched out a flower filled background.  Come play with us!

inking of you

I found this cute digital stamp on Etsy and just had to make a card with her.  The sentiment is computer generated.  I though the paper kind of looked like ink splats so I went with it.

All That Glitters

Hi everyone!  Today's Paper Ala Mode challenge is All That Glitters.  I am using an adorable image from Sweet Pea Stamps called Tory The Dragon Up by Conie Fong.  I added glitter to the dragon's spots.  I think he is just so cute!

You can a lot of glitter, or just a little - come play with us!

Heat Wave

I recently joined a two card swap where the theme is HOT!  Here are the two cards I made using two different shy bears drawn by Lynne Stansbery.  They are both colored with Copic markers and chalk.  I computer generated the sentiment and added some shaved ice on top of the "chill" word.

A swap where you only have to make two cards is about the only kind of swap I have time for these days!

Still Christmas At Paper Ala Mode

We are still celebrating Christmas at the Outlawz Paper Ala Mode challenge this week.  Our theme is Winter Wonderland and we have the optional twist of making a box card.  I love making these, and if you've never tried to make one I encourage you to watch this instructional video to see just how easy it is.

Beccy's Place is sponsoring the challenge this week, and she has so many wonderful images it was hard to choose!  I ended up getting this cute Snowman With Bird and created a box card.

It's hard to see, but the outside of the entire box is stamped with light blue snowflakes.  I added some snowflake paper to the inside flaps along with a computer generated sentiment.  The inside was fun to decorate with different snowflake dies that I added some stickles to.  I finished it off with some blue tinsel for a little more pop.

These cards pack a good punch, but I love that they can still be folded flat for mailing (completely flat if you don't go overboard and add the tinsel like me!)  I hope you'll come play with us!

Today is supposed to be a scorcher.  They have predicted a high of about 99 with a heat index of 117.  I plan on staying indoors as much as possible, although I do have lots of errands to run.  I have been out of town the past two weekends and my freezer meals are rather depleted because I haven't been home to do my usual weekly shopping and cooking.  So today I am grocery shopping and then doing lots of cooking!  Here is my menu this week

Hamburgers and baked potatoes
BBQ chicken thighs, potato salad, and baked beans
Chuck roast with potatoes and carrots
Salmon patties, spinach, and noodles
Ham Omelette and biscuits
I also plan to make spaghetti sauce and taco meat to freeze ahead of time.  Enjoy your weekend!

A Sassy Christmas In July

Hi everyone!  The Paper Ala Mode Challenge at the Outlawz this week is Christmas In July!  Everyone needs to get a little bit of a head start on Christmas cards, so come play with us!  The sponsor this week is Sassy Studio Designs, and I used this cute Hanging The Wreath Sassy.

It's a Sliding Pop Up card, so when the bottom is pulled, the top portion pops up and reveals a message.  I also like that it remains standing up.  It's an easy card to make!  Here it is opened up

It's colored with Copics and I added a little bit of gold sparkle to the holly die cut background.

2nd sporlight

A lot of people at the Paper Ala Mode challenge had never heard of the spotlight technique I showed you on Saturday, so I was telling them how to mix it up by having several areas spotlighted.  You can use different sized shapes and even different shapes altogether.  I came up with this quick card as a sample for them and thought I'd share it with you too

It's a hot week here - supposed to be about 100 every day this week with a heat index of about 110!  Should make for a very busy week at work!  Stay cool ya'll!

Sunflower In The Spotlight

Hi everyone!  Today's Paper Ala Mode challenge is Spotlight Technique.  This is a fun and easy challenge.  I love that it requires as much or as little coloring as you want to do but always makes for a wow look because of the pop of color.

We are being sponsored by The Stamping Boutique and I chose this cute little Sunflower Girl.  The sentiment is computer generated.

Today I am heading out of town this weekend to go see my sweet little grandson.  I can't wait to see him - he's gotten his first tooth since I was there and his hair has grown so much.  Have a n ice weekend!

Twisted Easel

Hi everyone!

This week The Paper Ala Mode challenge is to make a twisted easel card.  These are always fun cards to make!  Our sponsors are Rick St. Dennis and Sassy Stamps.  I chose a Rick St. Dennis image called Birthday Cupcake.

The little tag says "It's your birthday!" and was computer generated.  I hope you will come play with us - these are such easy cards to make and there are links to tutorials at the Paper Ala Mode challenge page if you don't know how to make them!

Enjoy your weekend!

Shadow Boxes at the Outlawz & Scrapbook time!

Hi everyone!  Today at the Outlawz Paper Ala Mode challenge we are making shadow boxes or Father's Day masculine cards.  I chose this adorable Umbrella Mouse from our sponsor Bugaboo and made a shadowbox and I added the twist of Father's Day by adding a sentiment to the cloud.

I have the image popped up on the back with some foam dots.  The sky was chalked, and I cut the cloud out of felt and chalked the edges of it.  If you look closely you can see how I added rain drops with some crystal lacquer.

Today I completed another page in my grandson's scrapbook.  I thought I'd show you what I have so far so I made a video.  I think I need to get a different kind of scrapbook that doesn't have the plastic page protectors, because I like to add interactive elements and the plastic inhibits the kind of the decorating elements you use too.  I'd love suggestions!  If you can't see the video below, you can just click HERE

Flower Power

Hi everyone!  Today's Paper Ala Mode challenge is Flower Power!  Just use flowers on your project! Our sponsor is Beccy's Place.   Beccy is so talented and so generous - she has so many wonderful freebies that she gives away.  In fact, the flowers on my card are one of her freebies called Sunflower/Gerbera.

I printed three of the flowers onto kraft card stock and used colored pencils to color them.  I used white with a little touch of blue.  The sentiment is computer generated.  For some reason I always love to use twine with kraft, so I punched a couple of holes on either end, finished them off with some blue eyelets, and strung some twine though.  This was all mounted onto a light blue card.

I hope you'll play with us.  Your flowers don't have to be in the image, it can also be adding punched flowers, rolled card stock flowers, fabric flowers...whatever!

Anything Goes

Hi everyone!   Today is my last day to guest design with the ladies at the Greetings Challenge at the Outlawz.  It's been great fun!  Today's challenge is anything Goes and the sponsor is Crafty Sentiments.  I chose an adorable Benson Bear Flower For You to use on my card

It's hard to not use color!

Good morning everyone, and happy Memorial Day weekend to you.  I am so happy to have this extra long weekend.  I only wish the weekend would seem as long as this past week has seemed!

Today the Paper Ala Mode Challenge at the Outlawaz is Shades Of Gray.  You can only use the colors black, white, and gray.  This was really hard for me!  I found out later that we could color on the skin, but I had already colored my image so I left it.

The sponsor of this challenge is Art By Miran and the image I used is called Venus

I used a stencil on the background and just sponged some white ink on to black card stock.  I like the velvet look it gave it.  Then I added some black rose ribbon trim on the side and cut one rose off and attached it to the corner of the image.  The final touch was a bit of sparkle in her hair.  I hope you will  step out of your comfort zone and come play along with us!

Star Spangled Day

Hi everyone!  What a wonderful weekend I had with my daughter and sweet little grandson.  I brought him a busy box, and he loved playing with it.  There were lots of smiles, giggles. and cuddles.  Also, I was there to see him roll over on his own for the first time!

Today I am once again happy to be guest designer at the Outlawz Greeting Card challenge.  Today's challenge is sponsored by Oddball Art Company

And the challenge is to use red, white, and blue on your card or project.  For my card I used an image called Penelope #3

I added some star embossing, and some red, white and blue star shaped buttons.  The sentiment was computer generated and I glittered the "Star Spangled" part.  I thought it would make a good card for someone who has a birthday on or near the 4th of July.

I hope you'll play along with us!
