Old gardeners

Hi everyone!  Today's Paper Ala mode challenge is everyone's favorite - Anything Goes!  Our sponsor this week is Stitchy Bears Stamps.  I used this cute Gran's Garden image to create this card.  It's going to my best friend's mom who will be turning 93 in a few days.  She has taught me so much about gardening, and I think she will like this.

happy wishes

Hi everyone.  I just wanted to share this birthday card I made for a friend.  I think these Penny Black hedgehogs are so cute, and I love how quick they are to color up.

A Magic Card and my weekly menu

Hi everyone.  I hope your weekend is going well.  I have done all of my cooking for the week today except for what we are having for dinner tonight which I will fix when we are ready to eat.  I will post my menu after I show you this fun birthday card I made.

I love making interactive cards, and one of the first kinds of interactive cards I learned to make was a magic card.  It's called a magic card because the black and white image on the card magically turns to a colored image.

Here is the front of my card

When the ribbon at the top is pulled this is what is seen

This is going to be a birthday card for my boss's wife.  I think she will like it.

Okay, now for my menu

Sunday - Liver and onions with roasted asparagus
Monday - Nana's macaroni soup with ciabatta bread
Tuesday - Lemon chicken thighs with spinach and baked beans
Wednesday - BLT sandwiches with baked potatoes
Thursday - Turkey breast with carrots and mashed potatoes
Friday - Salmon patties with peas and wild rice

I have enough of the macaroni soup to freeze for another time, and the turkey breast was done in the crock pot.  We should have enough of that left over for sandwiches.

My Spice Jar Re-organization

Hi everyone.  I hope you are having a good weekend!  I've got a busy one and need to get going if I am going to accomplish it all.  I did want to stop in and let you know that the Paper Ala Mode Challenge this week is to make us laugh - make something funny to tickle our funny bones.  The sponsor is Bugaboo, and they have some great images to fit this challenge!

I have finished my spice re-organization!  Here is the before picture.  Bottles, jars, tins of all sizes were always falling over and it was hard to see what I had.

So, I ordered some jars from Specialty Bottle .  I can't say enough good things about this company.  Their products are nice and they have amazing customer service!  My jars arrived so fast!  Anyway - I got the jars and then I bought some little disc magnets and glued magnets on opposite corners of the bottom of the jar.

I measured where I needed the metal board, and my boss was kind enough to cut me a sheet and turn the edges over so there isn't any danger of cutting myself.  I printed out some labels and used Mod Podge to adhere them to the lids.  Once the glue for the magnets had cured I stuck them up on my board.

Now if I had had the foresight to screw the lids on the jars before gluing the labels on, all of my jars would be in a neat row with the labels all straight - but I didn't have that foresight!  It doesn't matter though, the board is in the pantry and not out on display.  I love having them in handy reach and I have much more shelf space.  The best part is I can see at a glance what I have and what I'm low on.

My weekly menu

Hi everyone.  Happy Valentine's Day!  I wanted to post my menu for the week since so many of you ask me for it.  I am going easy on myself this week because I started a big project that I want time for.  More on that later.

Sunday - roasted chicken leg quarters with broccoli (this was on last week's menu but we didn't get to it because we had left over hamburgers for dinner last night)  Yay!  One less meal I have to prepare this week!
Monday - Jambalaya with cornbread
Tuesday - Chicken Tetrazini and peas
Wednesday - Roast in crock pot with carrots and potatoes
Thursday - Breakfast for dinner - French toast and eggs
Friday - Going out to a chili supper that benefits Friends of Animals

Now about my project - I am re-organizing the spices in my pantry.  I am so tired of jars falling over, not being able to see what I have, having to pick up jar after jar to finally find what I want, and going to the store to buy more of something I thought I was out of only to find that I have TWO jars of it sitting in my cabinet when I get back home!

I ordered some nice jars and some magnets online, and I asked my boss to cut a piece of sheet metal to fit on a wall in my pantry.  Last night I got all of the jars and lids washed, and today I will be gluing on the magnets and printing out and gluing on labels for the lids.  Then throughout the week I will be emptying out the spices into their new homes.  I will post before (ugh!)  and after photos for you once this project is complete.

Getting Sentimental and Paper Ala Mode

Hi everyone!  The Paper Ala Mode challenge this week is to put your focus on the sentiment.  We also have a brand new sponsor this week - Digi Stamp Boutique!    They have some great images in their store.  I chose to use a set called Flower Heart Circles.  It comes with four different wreaths and five different sentiments.

First off I made a birthday card.  It's a little hard to see, but I did add some yellow glitter to the center of the flowers.

I've been excited to show you my second card because I found a product that is new to me called Yupo paper and it is so much fun to play with alcohol inks on it.  Yupo paper is a synthetic paper and has kind of a plasticy feel to it.  When you drop the alcohol inks on it they spread out.  What's cool is that you can drop another color in the center of one and it will push it away.  This card background is just drops of alcohol inks.  If you search for yupo paper and alcohol inks art you will find some fantastic things people have done by controlling the inks a little more.

I also played around with the Yupo paper and made some polished stone backgrounds.  Using this paper makes that technique go much easier!  Here is one done in blue tones with silver ink.

Another one I did in orange red tones with gold ink

and a last one has no metallic ink, but I laid some plastic wrap on top of it and then pulled it off to give it some texture.

I still have to make out my menu for the week and then to get to the store and get busy.  I wish you all a happy weekend!

An anniversary card and my weekly menu

Hi everyone!  I wanted to share this anniversary card I made for my daughter and son in law.  I am really happy with how it turned out.

The piece on the side is a die cut that I glued on to the card.  I know it kind of looks like it was embossed.

I did all of my weekly cooking today.  Our menu is
Sunday - Herb crusted salmon filets with wild rice and roasted asparagus
Monday - Bacon cheeseburgers with oven fries
Tuesday - Creamy chicken, mushroom, spinach enchiladas with Spanish rice and sliced avacados
Wednesday - Rosemary pork chops with green beans and macaroni and cheese
Thursday - Tuna fish sandwiches with baked potatoes
Friday - Spaghetti with garlic bread
Saturday - Roasted chicken with carrots and broccoli
