Spirit infused barbecue sauce

Hi everyone.  Part of my Kroger mission was to use this new spirit infused barbecue sauce. Kroger sent me a free jar of Private Selection Kentucky Bourbon craft barbecue sauce, several recipes, and some coupons to share.   I chose to make some barbecue thighs in the oven.  I know it would be much tastier grilling them, but my grill is out of commission at the moment.  I have to say though that this sauce is out of this world delicious!  I baked the chicken at 400° for 25 minutes and then I turned the oven to 425° and basted the thighs with the barbecue sauce and baked them for 7 minutes.  Then I flipped the thighs and basted them again and baked for another 7 minutes.    I continued basting and flipping every 7 minutes until the chicken was cooked through. This creates the wonderful charred bits that you get when grilling!  I couldn't resist licking my fingers every time I flipped the thighs.  This stuff is delicious, and I will use it on so many things.

Outlawz Tulip Border

Hi everyone!  The Freebie Progressive Challenge at the Outlawz is up!  This month we were given the beautiful Tulip Border from Sheepski Designs.  I really enjoyed working with this beautiful image.

I debossed some of the tulips from the back to give some dimension, but it's hard to see on the computer screen.  I hope you will come look at the Outlawz and see what everyone else has done with this image, there are some really great creations.

Two swap cards

Here are a couple of cards I made for two card swap where the theme was nature.  I used distress inks and splashed with a little water.  These birds are just so cute.  Fun cards to make!

Trial and error

I made this birthday while trying out a new 3D die. This is the first time I used this die, and there is a small learning curve. I know I messed up on a couple of things. One thing is the top layer will get glued on top of the fold tab next time! Overall it was a fun card to make though!

Swap cards

I recently joined a swap where we were all sent the same items to work with to create a card.  It was fun seeing how everyone's creation was different.  Here are the two cards I made.

Merry Birthday?

My sister didn't get a Christmas present from me this year because she couldn't think of anything she really wanted and she didn't want me to just go out and buy something just to buy something.  So, I told her if she thought of anything later she could let me know - so all this time she's had a Christmas gift coming to her sometime in the future.

Well, her birthday is coming up in June and here I am with still nothing to give her!  Then the other day her washing machine broke and she had to go buy a new washer.  I thought contributing to the cost of a new washer might help and could be a combination Christmas/birthday present!  She was thrilled with the idea.

I wanted to make her a card - not just hand her a check!  Well it so happens that this particular sister is one of the artists who drew lots of images for Squigglefly.  One of the images she drew was just perfect.  I made up the sentiment to go with the "Merry Birthday" theme.

Speedy Recovery - speedy card

My boss's daughter broke her arm playing soccer over the weekend, so I made her this card.  She really liked it.  It was super quick to make with the cute Bandaid dies.

double trouble

I got a new die this week and couldn't wait to use it.  It's a beautiful die, but it's a LOT of trouble to use if you are going to do the inlay technique!  It was a labor of love though because these two cards are for my two daughters who have birthdays three days apart.

I cut two from the black and then two from the red and yellow and then mixed and matched the pieces for the inlay.  Some of the leaves were just colored with copic markers and some with wink of stella for a little sparkle.  I love the overall look, but it was way time consuming to make!

Here are close ups of the two cards.

Simple Birthday Wish

A simple birthday card using a cute image.  I did a little debossing of the image on the backside to give it a little dimension.

Not your mama's fish sticks!

I recently received a coupon to try a new product at Kroger's - Dr. Praeger's seafood products.  I chose the Buffalo Fish Bites.  These are little nuggets of wholesome deliciousness!  I really like the fact that I can pronounce every single ingredient in them, and they are packed with protein and really low in calories.

My husband enjoys them as much as I do.  Now I want to try some of the other varieties.

Birthday eclipse cards

I made a couple of eclipse cards for some upcoming birthdays.  They are fun to make.  The hardest part is deciding which stamps to use.  I cut the letters with my scan n cut.  The first one uses foam tape under the letters.  The second one has more dimension because I cut pieces of foam board.

folded books

So, I have been trying my hand at something new.  Folding books.  I have to say that this is one of the cheapest hobbies there is to get into.  The supplies are a ruler, a pencil, a pair of scissors, and a used book.  Patterns for different  things abound in any theme you can imagine, and even the ones you pay for a pretty cheap.  Pattern makers will make patterns for you if you can't find exactly what you're looking for, and they can even custom make a pattern from a photo of your pet or loved one.

I decided to start off with a very simple and basic heart.  The book I grabbed didn't have enough pages to complete my heart, but it was enough to let me know if it was something I wanted to continue trying to do.

Then I moved on to a cat's face peeking from the side of the book.  Several of my friends said they can't tell this is a cat, but I still wasn't put off.

Here is a simple dog's paw that I folded.  I think I am going to give this one to my vet.

Finally I felt ready to attack something a little more complicated doing a cut and fold.  I am going to cover this one with a cute dog themed paper and send it to my sister who recently lost her dog.

I'm moving on to even more complicated ones now.  It's quite fun and easier to do that you might expect!

productive weekend - lots of photos!

Hi everyone!  Well many of you don't know that the day after new year's we had a pipe in our attic freeze and burst causing the ceiling in our master bedroom to cave in and pour water into our house.  It ended up flooding all three bedrooms in our home - one of which is my craft room.

The entire month of January we were sleeping on a mattress on our living room floor and all the furniture from the bedrooms was stuffed into our kitchen, living room, and garage.  What a mess!  Once the repairs were underway it was a major undertaking to empty absolutely everything from each room.  Finally a  couple of days after Valentines Day the last of the repairs were finished and we were able to start moving the furniture back in!  Then it was three days for me to unpack all of the boxes in my craft room and put everything back in order.  I have been so ready to get in there and make something!  So this weekend I treated myself to lots of play time and knocked out several birthday cards for my stash.  I will share a couple of photos of the group of cards and then each card will be shown individually.  There's not really anything special here - it was just me having fun playing for the first time in a long time.  I also used up some of my scrap paper!
